Athletic talent runs deep in the Roberts family.
When Coupeville Middle School eighth grader Ally Roberts looks around at a family reunion, there’s older sister Madeline Roberts, currently starring as a dangerous lead-off hitter for the Wolf softball team.
Uncle and aunt Jon and Sherry Roberts were both CHS Athlete of the Year winners, grandpa Sandy Roberts is a legendary local coach and dad Jay Roberts is the best Wolf athlete ever to decline my offer of writing a feature story about him.
But don’t worry about Ally. She’s doing pretty well herself these days.
A volleyball player who may also follow her older sister onto the Wolf cheer squad, Roberts is currently setting the horse world on fire.
Riding for the Blazing Saddles club through Island County 4H, she has been riding for seven years and is a state meet veteran, having placed 8th in Showmanship in 2012.
Riding at a competition Saturday, she hauled in seven medals (four Grand Champion and three Reserve Champion) and was anointed High Point Champion for the show.
“My show went fantastic!” Roberts said. “I was really excited and didn’t know what to expect and it went GREAT!”
