My name is David Svien and my journalistic “career” has been dedicated to chafing editors everywhere.
Which is why I now write for myself.
Before I started this blog Aug. 15, 2012, my words appeared in the Whidbey News-Times, Coupeville Examiner, Everett Herald, Nisqually Valley News, Federal Way News, Skagit Valley Herald and a ton of fly-by-night “papers” that crashed and burned.
Some of my credentials:
1993 Best Sports Column — Washington Newspaper Publishers Association
1997 Best General Column — WNPA
2011 Best Humorous Column — WNPA
2011 Best Education Story — WNPA
I also placed 2nd in a spelling bee one time and I won a DVD copy of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show: Season 7” in an internet contest.

I will listen. I may not agree. But I will listen.
Were you the fat guy in the Redskins suit at the game?
Born and bred Steelers fan (6 Super Bowl titles), baby. No way I would rep the Redskins.
Thank you David for the wonderful posts and photos.

David, thank you for your previous posts on lifetime Coupeville stats (with Jack Elzinga’s help) – specifically the update on Jerry Zylstra’s lifetime stats. My sister ran across your blog a few days ago and shared it with the family. While we still have various family in the area, it’s amazing how fast minute details of your parents’ lives can melt away once they are gone. Our dad, Jerry, passed away 3 years ago, but he would have been thrilled to see your post. Keep up the good work!!
I am in one of the photos and I don’t approve. Please take me off now. I am the one who pulled a muscle or 20.
You want to be more specific and narrow it down?
There are 4,767 articles on Coupeville Sports, and many thousands of photos. Which photo, in which story, do you have a problem with?
Nevermind It’s fine.
The family and fans of Abbie Jackson of Charles Wright Academy really appreciate the kind words in your article about her play in the district volleyball tournament last weekend.
You are doing a phenomenal job. Thanks
Amazing job!
David: Thanks for your incredible fascination and work. My university is the University of Florida (Not Weil U). Need to give them their due.
Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Elzinga. I went and changed it.
I would like to purchase a summer little picture.

Hi! We donated via PayPal last year and would love to see our names added to the friends list. Happy to send the receipt if needed Thanks for your great work!

Done and done. Thanks for the heads up and sorry about the wait.
David, I’m a bit late to the party, but is this Scott Thompson, the beloved father or father in law of Jessica Thompson (nee Bork), of Oak Harbor. The same Jessica who is big in the Island Co. Republican Party and Misfit Toys, and who is now running for OH school board … again?
If so, oh my, what tangled webs we weave.
Hello David, my favorite sports reporter. I’m just wondering why the posts of my granddaughter (Makana Stone ) are no longer being posted on my Facebook page like they used to be. I’m wondering if there are some kind of new rules restricting that.
Be well, be safe, and thank you for your wonderful reporting
Facebook’s AI cops go through periods where they block me from tagging people, because they see me tagging the same people over and over during a particular season. That reads to them as me being a spammer. So the only way I can keep my links from being deleted off of Facebook is to post them with no tags. Give them two weeks and things will go back to normal … for a couple of months … and I’ll be able to tag people.
