They live on to play another day.
Both of Coupeville High School’s golfers made the cut after day one of the 1A state golf tourney at Lake Spanaway Tuesday and will return to the course tomorrow morning for another go-round.
Wolf sophomore Christine Fields is sitting in a tie for 8th place on the girls side after carding an 88. That’s nine strokes better than her debut round last season, which she followed up with an epic charge the next day to finish 8th as a freshman.
Madisen Bentley of Life Christian, who finished 4th in 2012, is sitting in 1st place.
On the boys side, CHS senior Austin Fields made it three-for-three when he snuck in under the wire to advance to day two. After finishing 37th as a sophomore and 36th as a junior, he sits in a tie for 39th currently.
His round of 85 was right at the cut line and he waved bye-bye to 38 golfers who rang up an 86 or worse.
Defending state champ Ross Kukula of Ilwaco is two strokes up on Blaine’s Ryan Wallen with 18 holes to play.
