Day two was a mixed bag.
One Coupeville High School golfer surged Wednesday, while the other lost some ground at the 1A state golf tourney in Lake Spanaway.
Wolf senior Austin Fields capped his third go-round at the big dance by firing an 83 to jump 13 spots in the final standings. His 29th place finish topped his sophomore (37th) and junior (36th) results.
Younger sister Christine struggled a bit, however, carding a 98, ten strokes off her performance from Tuesday. She dropped from a tie for 8th at the start of the day to a final showing of 15th.
She was 8th as a freshman.
Ross Kukula of Ilwaco won his second straight boys’ title, pulling off an eight-stroke win and leading his school to the team title.
On the girls side, Bree Wanderscheid of Goldendale turned a three-stroke deficit into a six-stroke victory with a brilliant second round. Goldendale won the team title.
The only other Whidbey golfer to make it to day two was South Whidbey’s Jenna Kaik, who shot an 88 Wednesday and claimed 12th place.
