Day 100.
They speak of it in mythical terms, and yet Day 100 is a lot like Day 92 or Day 43. Penn Cove is cold, salty and full of barnacle and mussel-encrusted hidden underwater rocks every dang day.
Yet, I keep going. Cause I’m stupid like that.
Or, it’s the fringe benefits. The weird looks you get from people (and the occasional sea lion).
And, most importantly, the free ice cream I’m getting from Joel Norris (a saint) at Kapaw’s for hitting the milestone.
Will more celebratory goodies find their way to me today? Just a reminder — I work the dinner shift starting at 5 PM at Christopher’s on Whidbey, if you need a handy place to drop things off…
So, I go on, caught in my torrid tango with Penn Cove — or maybe I’m moving that way because it’s like she stuck an icicle up my crotch.
167 days in 2011. 133 in ’12. As of this morning, 100 days and counting in ’13.
Where will it end? With a free lifetime supply of ice cream, that’s where it should end!!
I think my brain is frozen again…
