Two teams and a bunch of fans were left hanging Thursday night.
The Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad and visiting Granite Falls were ready and raring to go on the pitch, but were denied a chance to play when no referees showed for the game.
The problem appears to be a reworked schedule, which had flipped home soccer and volleyball games against Granite Falls Oct. 1 for road contests at Lakewood.
When the new home games rolled around nine days later, the folks who schedule refs had their volleyball people in place, but appear to have missed the memo when it came to soccer.
That allowed both soccer teams the chance to migrate several blocks down the road and watch the volleyball match, but leaves a soccer game that will need to be rescheduled.
Barring another snafu, the Wolves will return to action Saturday with a 2 PM non-conference home game against Concrete.
