"See, told you! Now, feet, let's get moving. They don't call me 'Wheels' for nothin'!!"

An actual South Whidbey kid on a South Whidbey squad? It's true, as Charlie Patterson connects at the plate.

An actual South Whidbey kid on a South Whidbey squad? It’s true, as Charlie Patterson connects at the plate.

He does what he can.

Forced into exile and made to wear the colors of a rival school, Coupeville High School senior-to-be Kurtis Smith, along with four Wolf teammates, is rockin’ the blue and white for the South Whidbey American Legion baseball squad this spring.

With no Coupeville team this year, Smith, Aaron Trumbull, Aaron Curtin and the Payne boys, Morgan and Cole, are traipsing down South to play alongside Falcons.

And the meshed team is really starting to click, ripping off big wins recently against Marysville (12-2) and Lynden (7-1). The two-game winning streak has lifted South Whidbey’s record to 3-7, with six games left to play on the regular-season schedule.

"AAAAAAAAAAAA!!! It's on my shoe! It's on my shoe!!"

Then the bug got smashed with one mighty blow...

And everyone celebrated.

"It's the circle of life, boy. We crush the bugs ... or they rise up and destroy the world."

“It’s the circle of life, boy. We’re baseball men. We crush bugs. You want to go hug and sing around the campfire with ’em, maybe you’re more a soccer kind of guy…”

Is that what really happened?

I’d like to think so.

"I have the POWER!!!"

“I have the POWER!!!”

Attacked by groupies!

Attacked by groupies!

His uncle

“So … no one is going to watch me play… Lil’ punk. I used to be the cute one…”

Game on.

A few days ago, we brought you the first blow in the Great Cuteness War of 2013, as the son of former Wolf greats Erik and Julie (Swankie) Wheat made his debut rockin’ the rally cap.

Take a gander at https://coupevillesports.com/2013/06/12/aaaaahhh-the-cuteness-the-cuteness/.

But now he has a rival, as the son of former Wolf superstar Kassie (Lawson) O’Neil launches his bid for the crown while hanging out at the American Legion game of uncle Kurtis Smith.

Will it be like “Highlander?” Can there only be one? Or will the duo unite and rule the internet with their cuteness?

Only time will tell.

ll4ll9ll1ll6ll8ll7ll3Be the next Brian Norris.

That’s the goal for this year’s Central Whidbey Little League All-Stars, as they follow in the proud tradition of the 2010 state champs headlined by Norris, Ben Etzell, Korbin Korzan and most of the current Coupeville High School baseball stars.

They may not win a title (but, hey, why not?), but they do get to play on, shagging fly balls and dreaming big.

Rally cap time!! (Julie Wheat photo)

Rally cap time!! (Julie Wheat photo)

There are a lot of photos, but, every once in awhile, one goes and melts down the internet by itself.

The photo above, which captures former Coupeville High School sports star Erik Wheat rockin’ the rally caps with his son Aiden (grandson of Dee at PC) at a minor league baseball game, is just such a photo.

Erik and wife Julie (Swankie), also a big Wolf star a year or two back, are in El Paso, Texas these days as Erik pursues his military career.
