Jason Knoll, channeling christian Bale. Seriously. I don't think he'll be able to talk today after using his vocal cords for 80 minutes like that.

Just back from competing at Harvest Fest, Wolf tennis ace Jason Knoll channeled Christian Bale, doing play-by-play from the stands in his distinctive Batman growl.

Saturday was a great day to be a Wolf.

The Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad rained down an unholy amount of goals in a 7-0 romp over visiting Concrete, and traveling photographer John Fisken, trying hard to ignore the fact U-Dub was being routed by Oregon on the gridiron, was busy snapping photos.

If you like the glossy pics you see above, head over to http://www.nw1a2bathletics.com/index.php?act=view_gallery&gallery=4513&league=5&page=1&page_name=photo_store&school=43&sport=0 to check out the rest.

Use the coupon code EB45134962 to purchase photos from this game before Saturday, Oct. 26 and you’ll get a 15% discount off your purchase.

Plus, purchases (by either CHS or Concrete fans and parents) helps fund college scholarships for Wolf student athletes. So there’s that.

Julia Myers was the loneliest girl in town Saturday.

The Coupeville High School goaltender didn’t face a single shot on goal in the first half of her team’s non-conference game against visiting Concrete.

Instead, she spent most of the opening forty minutes enjoying the sunny afternoon, admiring the trees and flowers, and, oh yes, celebrating as her teammates rained down goals on the opposing goalie.

A Wolf squad which had scored four times in nine games erupted for that many in the first half against the Lions and then tacked on a few more, just in case, in a dominating 7-0 victory.

With Marisa Etzell and Makana Stone each banging in a pair of goals, five CHS booters found the back of the net.

Myers even got some action herself, moving out of the net and coming dangerously close to scoring several times in the second half, while Joye Jackson patrolled the goal in her place.

The game was effectively over less than three minutes in, when Etzell, flying down the left side, took a gorgeous cross from Micky LeVine and redirected it past the flailing Concrete netminder.

Just to make sure, however, the Wolf junior doubled her pleasure less than two minutes later, dribbling through a wall of defenders and launching her second goal of the afternoon into the corner of the net.

Not to be outdone, Stone, gliding down the field with long, elegant strides, pulled off a one-woman breakaway. Then, just like Etzell, she struck a second time less than two minutes apart, taking a corner kick from Jennifer Spark and turning it into another goal.

With Coupeville tennis ace Jason Knoll in the stands, delivering play by play in his best Christian Bale growl while clad in a Batman costume, the Wolves continued to romp in the second half to the delight of a partisan crowd.

LeVine put herself in exactly the right position and then knocked in a rebound that hit the crossbar and bounced right to her deadly toe.

Not to be outdone, Spark, backed by a large, boisterous personal cheering section, smacked shot after shot at the increasingly panicky Concrete goalie. When she connected on a roundhouse shot as she rolled to her right, it smacked into the net with a sonic boom and reduced her fans to a screaming mess.

As the day wound down and Coupeville wrapped up its second win of the season, team captain Erin Rosenkranz put the final stamp on the game. After dancing with the goalie in a one-on-one duel, she slapped a shot that shredded the Concrete player’s hands, and soul, finally coming to a rest in the back of the net.

After that, there was nothing left to do but celebrate, as a team of beaming, hugging girls tumbled over each other to bow to the parents, fellow students and fans in the stands.

Two teams and a bunch of fans were left hanging Thursday night.

The Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad and visiting Granite Falls were ready and raring to go on the pitch, but were denied a chance to play when no referees showed for the game.

The problem appears to be a reworked schedule, which had flipped home soccer and volleyball games against Granite Falls Oct. 1 for road contests at Lakewood.

When the new home games rolled around nine days later, the folks who schedule refs had their volleyball people in place, but appear to have missed the memo when it came to soccer.

That allowed both soccer teams the chance to migrate several blocks down the road and watch the volleyball match, but leaves a soccer game that will need to be rescheduled.

Barring another snafu, the Wolves will return to action Saturday with a 2 PM non-conference home game against Concrete.

Luvera power

The goals just aren’t showing up.

Shut out for the seventh time this season, the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer team fell 5-0 at Cedarcrest Tuesday night, sending the Wolves to their fourth straight loss.

Having played five of its last six games on the road, Coupeville (1-8 overall, 1-7 in Cascade Conference play) gets to return home for a stretch now. The Wolves host three straight and five of their final seven, starting with Granite Falls Thursday and Concrete Saturday.

Playing in Duvall against a tough Red Wolf squad, which improved to 6-4, 6-2, Coupeville couldn’t stop Rebakah Gagnon. She punched home two goals to pace Cedarcrest, while Madeline Wheir added two assists.

Sydney Kuehn, Olivia May and Brielle Rhode rounded out the scorers, with Kuehn and Megan Rodger notching an assist apiece.

An undermanned Wolf squad — it was missing three starters due to injuries — held Cedarcrest to just a 1-0 lead at the half. But, with only 12 girls available, Coupeville was worn down in the second half physically and finally broke.

“I was proud of the 12 who matched a talented team’s energy and intensity for as long as they possibly could,” said Coupeville coach Troy Cowan. “But not many teams could have withstood the onrush that we faced!”

He singled out three players for their play, though stressed that all 12 had no quit in them all night long. He also praised a band of family and friends who traveled to Duvall to watch their girls play.

Makana Stone continues to play hard and impress and Tori Wellman finally made the impact we have been waiting for,” Cowan said. “Tori found another gear last night and shut down the right side of the field and played some impressive defense.

“Also, May Rose played awesome,” he added. “Providing constant pressure and playing to her potential. She was flying all over the field tonight like a crazed dog!!! It was a lot of fun watching her on the pitch.”
