I think my arm is frozen…

It's like the freakin' Bahamas in here, isn't it?

It’s like the freakin’ Bahamas in here, isn’t it?

The calendar lies!

This morning it said it was July 31, and yet the fog-enshrouded waters of Penn Cove felt more like mid-October at 9 AM.

I expect the heat to return tomorrow for the start of August and … oh yeah, this is Penn Cove and there’s never any heat. Silly me.

Well played, you salty vixen. Well played.

Salty...

Salty…

"I must crush you." And yes, I'm speaking to the ice cream cone...

“I must crush you.” And the neighbors just shake their heads … sadly.

Talk dirty to me...

It’s a torrid love affair.

Day 100.

They speak of it in mythical terms, and yet Day 100 is a lot like Day 92 or Day 43. Penn Cove is cold, salty and full of barnacle and mussel-encrusted hidden underwater rocks every dang day.

Yet, I keep going. Cause I’m stupid like that.

Or, it’s the fringe benefits. The weird looks you get from people (and the occasional sea lion).

And, most importantly, the free ice cream I’m getting from Joel Norris (a saint) at Kapaw’s for hitting the milestone.

Will more celebratory goodies find their way to me today? Just a reminder — I work the dinner shift starting at 5 PM at Christopher’s on Whidbey, if you need a handy place to drop things off…

So, I go on, caught in my torrid tango with Penn Cove — or maybe I’m moving that way because it’s like she stuck an icicle up my crotch.

167 days in 2011. 133 in ’12. As of this morning, 100 days and counting in ’13.

Where will it end? With a free lifetime supply of ice cream, that’s where it should end!!

I think my brain is frozen again…

The hand speaks in mysterious ways.

The hand speaks in mysterious ways.

I vote yes.

I think Saturday, which will be Day 100 in Penn Cove, should be honored as National Let’s Give David Free Cake (or pie, or cookies, or cupcakes — cupcakes are nice) Day.

That’s 100 days in a swimsuit and hiking boots, cause wet suits are for fancy lads, and I’m not prancing around on a sailing yacht right now.

It’ll be 68 days after that to break my 2011 record, at which point we can, and should, discuss further baked goods.

For now, I’ll be easy to find that day, as I work the dinner shift at Christopher’s on Whidbey starting at 5 PM.

If you’re curious, that’s located at 103 NW Coveland, and complimentary celebration goodies can be delivered at any time.

It’s the right thing to do.

There goes my career as a knee model.

There goes my career as a knee model.

600 times, and I still can’t remember where all the underwater rocks are.

Or else Penn Cove is getting sneakier and moving the mussel and barnacle-encrusted boulders around at night, so they’re in a different place each day. I wouldn’t put it past the salty lil’ vixen.

And when I bang up my knee, like I did a few days back, it’s not like it was my first time at the (aquatic) rodeo.

Like I said, 600+ times, in the same freakin’ stretch of water.

167 days in 2011. 133 in 2012. 95 this year so far. Twice a day more than half those days.

But, bam, knee meet that rock we’ve seen a billion times, while the otters laugh and laugh and laugh some more.

Well, at least chicks dig scars. So, if I get that job on a farm, I should be popular when collecting eggs…

Thank you, and don’t forget to tip your waitresses. I’ll be here in the water, bleeding like a moron, all week.

Snazzy new prison tats.

Snazzy new prison tats.

It’s “Kill Bill” day in Penn Cove.

Day 88 (more than halfway to 2011’s record of 167 days) and that brings out the Crazy 88’s (with optional flying kung fu fish). Why? Why not.

The scream you hear as you read this is my non-wet suit-clad body (wet suits are for fancy lads) being “embraced” by the salty, icy, wet vixen at the bottom of the Hill O’ Death.

The screams may linger for a bit. Feel free to look away and shake your head sadly…
