Wolf fans will have a chance to see one of the state’s best high school volleyball teams first-hand this week.
King’s, which is ranked third in Class 1A in the first State Volleyball Coaches Association poll, is 5-0 on the still-young season and has a major clash with fellow unbeaten Cedarcrest tonight before heading to Whidbey Island on Thursday, Sept. 27 for a 7 PM match-up with Coupeville High School.
The Wolves are 2-4 overall, 1-4 in Cascade Conference play, with a road match at Granite Falls tonight.
Meanwhile, the Knights have shredded South Whidbey, Sultan, Archbishop Thomas Murphy, Granite Falls and Lakewood, dropping just one set in five matches. They trail only Castle Rock and Cascade Leavenworth in the polls, while Cedarcrest is somewhat surprisingly missing from the 2A poll, which is topped by West Valley of Yakima and includes two interesting teams in its mix.
Those squads are Tumwater (my true alma mater) at number two and Anacortes (which features former Wolf sensation Jessica Riddle) at number five.
