No ball may touch the floor!

That seemed to be the mantra for Breeanna Messner and Sydney Aparicio Tuesday night, as the Coupeville High School duo did their best to keep the Wolves in a tough road battle at Granite Falls. And while their efforts ultimately weren’t enough to prevent a 25-14, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19 loss, they did ring up some nice personal stats.

Messner went low to rack up a match-high 35 digs, while Aparicio sparkled with 26 of her own. Hailey Hammer was the biggest beneficiary of the ball staying in play, pounding home 13 kills, while Megan Oakes dealt out a team-best 20 assists.

The loss, the second straight for Coupeville, dropped the Wolves to 2-5 overall, 1-5 in the Cascade Conference. They were down a key player, with injury robbing them of Bessie Walstad.

Coupeville returns to action Thursday, Sept. 27 with a home match-up against highly-ranked King’s. The Knights, who thumped fellow unbeaten Cedarcrest Tuesday, are 6-0 and ranked third in the state in Class 1A.
