Can a fall tennis season without a single drop of rain remain that way?
That’s the hope of area tennis coaches, who have bumped up the district tournament at Langley from Saturday, Oct. 13 to Thursday, Oct. 11 in an effort to out-run rain in the forecast.
Coupeville, South Whidbey and Friday Harbor will send two singles players and two doubles teams to the tourney, while Lummi Island and Meridian will toss in a singles player or two apiece to make things interesting.
The Wolves have already decided their doubles duos (Nathan Lamb/Aaron Curtin and Ben Etzell/Ben Wehrman) and will trim four contestants down to two tomorrow in their on-going Death Rumble ’12.
Rounds one and two were played Tuesday, and the netters still standing were Brian Norris, Sebastian Davis, Jason Knoll and Shane Squire.
Knoll will play Davis Wednesday, while Norris and Squire will hook-up in the other semifinal. The winners, who will earn the two singles slots for districts, will then face-off for seeding purposes and general bragging rights.
