CHS coach Ken Stange: “You will submit to my dance of the seven sun movements!!” (Wendy McCormick photo)
One day. One stinkin’ day.
That’s how close the Coupeville High School boys’ tennis team, and their outside, open court-playing brethren in District 1 came to completing a completely rain-free fall sports season.
It didn’t happen, however, as the rain that finally moved in after four plus months of clear skies, washed away Saturday’s scheduled district tennis tournament in Langley. The Wolves, South Whidbey, Friday Harbor, Lummi Island and Meridian hope to hit the courts on Tuesday, but, with rain forecast for a nice stretch now, that’s questionable.
The five schools do have a bit of time to play with, as the next round, Quad-Districts, doesn’t take place until Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Whenever they do see semi-blue (or at least rain-free) skies again, the Wolves will send singles players Sebastian Davis and Brian Norris and doubles duos Nathan Lamb/Aaron Curtin and Ben Etzell/Ben Wehrman out to do battle.
