Time to shock the world.
Cascade Conference coaches don’t think much of Coupeville High School basketball, picking both the Wolf girls’ and boys’ to finish dead-last in the eight-team 1A/2A league in 2012-2013.
The just-released polls:
GIRLS:
1. Archbishop Murphy
2. Cedarcrest
3. King’s
4. South Whidbey
5. Sultan
6. Granite Falls
7. Lakewood
8. Coupeville
BOYS:
1. Cedarcrest
2. King’s
3. Sultan
4. Granite Falls
5. Archbishop Murphy
6. Lakewood
7. South Whidbey
8. Coupeville
It’s hard to fault the coaches too much, with the Wolf boys coming off of a winless first season under Anthony Smith and the girls’ squad looking to bounce back from a 2-17 finish from a year ago.
But there is hope. There is potential. There are talented players on both sides of the ball (Bessie Walstad, Jai’Lysa Hoskins, Gavin O’Keefe, Aaron Curtin, etc.) There is a fire being built by Smith and new girls’ coach David King.
They play the games for a reason. Anything can happen between tip-off and final buzzer.
Shock the world, Wolves.
