Right now, the Coupeville High School girls’ basketball team is the best 1A school in the Cascade Conference.
This is not opinion. This is fact.
Yes, we’re only three games into a 14-game league schedule, but the Wolves are 2-1, King’s is 2-1 and South Whidbey is 0-3. The five 2A schools in the conference are Cedarcrest and ATM (both 3-0), Sultan and Lakewood (both 1-2) and Granite Falls (0-3).
But our records are the same, would say King’s fans. Both the Knights and Coupeville are 3-3 overall, as well. So, a tie.
Except, King’s conference loss was to ATM, which is 4-1, while Coupeville’s loss was to Cedarcrest, which is 7-0. Cedarcrest is also ranked ahead of ATM in every poll I’ve seen.
So, same record, but Coupeville gets style points for losing to a bigger opponent.
That’s splitting hairs, King’s fans would say.
This is my blog, I would reply. So tough nuts.
As of Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, Coupeville is the best 1A school in the Cascade Conference. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
When Tuesday, Jan. 8 rolls around and the Knights travel to Whidbey Island, maybe I’ll change my tune. But I doubt it.
