Some day they will spell Ben Etzell’s last name the way his ancestors spelled it.
Until then, until the Everett Herald and the Seattle Times and now the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association learn to spell, we will be basking in the afterglow of Ben Ezzel’s accomplishments.
Regardless of how it’s spelled, or misspelled, it’s nice to see a Coupeville High School athlete actually get noticed by someone on the outside, however.
So we’ll look past the boo-boo and concentrate on the fact E-T-Z-E-L-L was honored by the WIAA as one of its Athletes of the Week.
The WIAA picks one male and female athlete from each classification (4A, 3A, 2A, 1A, 2B, 1B) and Etzell’s 24-point performance against Mount Vernon Christian, the game in which the Wolves snapped a 33-game, 702-day losing streak, earned him his spot.
