Never give in, never give up.
In a season of injuries and illness, the Coupeville High School boys’ basketball team is still standing and it has at least one more round of pain to rain on its foes.
Thursday night the Wolves will head to Langley for a loser-out district playoff game with Island rival South Whidbey (7 PM tip-off), and the only question will be who will be on the court in the red and black.
Ben Etzell is back, after missing four games with a wrist injury and staph infection. Aaron Trumbull is expected to be back, after missing several games with a concussion.
But just as they come back, Aaron Curtin has gone down with strep, missing the Wolves’ opening playoff loss at Lynden Christian. And Wednesday senior Caleb Valko took a shot to the eye in practice and ended up getting four stitches.
In typical Valko fashion, the mop-topped one simply uttered the following words: “I’ll play tomorrow, doctor’s approval or not.”
Classic Valko. Classic Wolves.
