They’re smart, too.

Basketball season reached its final moments Thursday night.
With the Coupeville High School boys’ squad handing out letters and awards at a team banquet, the long and winding road reached its end and Wolf Nation can now move on fully committed to spring sports.
Senior Drew Chan and junior Nick Streubel took home the Coaches Award, while Streubel was named an Honorable Mention selection in All-Cascade Conference voting by league coaches. Freshman Jared Helmstadter and sophomore Oscar Liquidano walked (actually, probably ran) away with the Mr. Hustle Awards.
The team as a whole was honored by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association with a WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award for maintaining a team-wide grade point average of 3.0 to 3.49.
Earning varsity letters were seniors Chan and Caleb Valko, juniors Anthony Bergeron, Ben Etzell, Morgan Payne and Streubel and sophomores Aaron Curtin, Carson Risner and Aaron Trumbull.
Receiving JV participation certificates were junior Josiah Campbell, sophomores Liquidano, Isaac Vargas and Joel Walstad and freshmen Helmstadter, Wiley Hesselgrave and Dalton Martin.
Managers CJ “Butters” Roberts and Scott Davidson rounded out the Wolf roster.
We also offer shout-outs to starting guard Gavin O’Keefe, who had a premature end to his junior season when he broke his leg in the season’s second game, and freshman Ryan Griggs, a key JV player until a family move midway through the season.
