Well, what do you know.
After a basketball season of deservedly complaining about god-awful refs who brutalized Coupeville High School varsity teams, it turns out some of those refs actually like us anyway. At least a little bit.
In season-long voting conducted by the Northwest Board of Women’s Basketball Officials, refs who worked games felt that the Wolf girls’ JV squad and their coaches and fans represented the best in their division when it came to sportsmanship.
A tough, physical but clean-playing squad, the JV, which won nine games, included McKayla Bailey, McKenzie Bailey, Emily Coulter, Miranda Engle, Julia Felici, Kacie Kiel, Samantha Martin, Madeline Strasburg, Wynter Thorne and Monica Vidoni.
The squad will receive a plaque at the referee banquet this Saturday.
“It’s a great honor,” said Wolf JV coach Amy King.
