The snow is gone. To the diamond we go.
Both the Coupeville High School softball and baseball squads are scheduled to play non-conference games against Port Townsend today at 1 PM, with both teams trying to keep winning streaks alive.
The Wolf baseball team hasn’t played in a week, since they staged an epic three-hour-plus 9-8 win over Nooksack Valley in the sideways rain and freezing wind last Saturday. Coupeville enters today with a 1-2 record.
The softballers should be playing game five, but instead are looking at game two, as persistent rain has prevented them from playing Lakewood, Meridian and Cedarcrest.
The lone time they were able to take the field, they also pulled off a come-from-behind victory, slapping South Whidbey with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to grab their own 9-8 victory Tuesday.
The weather forecast claims it will be 46 degrees, partly cloudy/partly sunny with a mild five MPH wind at game time. To which I say, I’ll believe that when I see it.
