The Wolves control their own destiny.
It’s simple. Beat Lakewood today (first pitch 4 PM) and Coupeville, which has won four of its last five, will host a home playoff game Wednesday.
The Wolves (9-10 overall, 7-10 in Cascade Conference play) enter today locked in a tie with South Whidbey for third-place in the league and the #1 seed among 1A schools.
But, since they took two of three from their dastardly arch-rivals, they own the tiebreaker.
Win and you’re #1. Get some help from Sultan, which hosts the Falcons, and you’re #1.
Only way Coupeville slips to #2 and opens the playoffs on the road is a Wolf loss and a Falcon win.
The difference? A #1 seed means the Wolves would host the #5 team from the Northwest Conference, while a #2 seed puts them on the road at the home of the #3 team from the NWC.
Win or lose Wednesday and they’re right back at it (at Pipeline Fields in Blaine) Thursday.
Win at least one of those two and they return to Blaine Saturday to wrap up district play, with an eye on being one of the four teams (out of eight total) to advance on to tri-districts.
The postseason push begins in earnest today. Make that first step count, boys.
