Austin Fields still wields a mean stick on the links.
Having capped a legendary career as a golfer for Coupeville High School, where he went to three straight state tourneys while operating as a one-man Wolf wrecking crew, Fields is now backhanding opponents at the next level.
Playing in the first-ever Whidbey Amateur this weekend, Fields carded the best gross score in Flight 2, rolling to a 157.
Round one was played Saturday at the Gallery Golf Course, with round two teeing off Sunday at the Whidbey Golf Club.
Robert Tercero edged Doug Pierce for the overall title.
