I don’t know Wandra Grone and Wandra Grone doesn’t know me.
So, it was with some surprise that I woke up this morning to find several of her campaign signs shoved deeply into the grass in front of world-wide headquarters for Coupeville Sports.
If I was supporting anyone in the race for Island County Treasurer this year, it would be Christa Canell, mom of recently graduated Wolf two-sport star Haley Sherman.
During Cookie Wars 2014 — when CHS sports moms bribed me with goodies all spring — Haley was one of the few who got one of my cookies, which I otherwise ruthlessly guarded.
I never gave a cookie to Wanda Grone. Not before and definitely not now.
No cookies for you!!
And no putting up campaign signs on people’s property without permission.
Having spoken to my landlord, who, you know, actually owns the property, NO PERMISSION was given to the Grone campaign to besmirch a property that sits on SHERMAN Road.
In her campaign info, Grone states she is “professional and ethical.” It’s possible.
Her fly-by-night supporters with their hammers and campaign signs, however, probably prefer words like “sneaky,” “obtuse” and “oh crap, run, they saw us!!!!!”
So, I’ll tell you what. I’m going to even things out a bit.
She has never asked for, and would never ask, but Christa Canell is getting a free ad here on Coupeville Sports.
She didn’t pay for it. She isn’t a sponsor.
This is a freebie.
Because I like Christa and I think she raised a wonderful daughter in Haley, who was always a shining example of what a Wolf student/athlete could, and should be.

Go Team Canell for Treasurer. The local girl who grew up here and cares about Island county. There are many GREAT words to describe Christa Canell but the two that come to mind are HONEST and CARING. She has my vote!
Get out and vote Canell for Treasurer each vote for her is a vote for the good of Island county.
Wow, David Stein, I apologize. I did get permission to post two signs on the property rented by a friend who lives at the corner of Sherman and Madrona roads. I was told that she did not see why the landlord would have a problem with it. If I was misinformed and you are the landlord, I’d be happy to remove the signs if you have picked them up. Rules? Of course I obey the rules. I don’t want to get my friend in trouble with her landlord. My friend’s lodgings did not look like the worldwide headquarters for Coupeville sports. Who knew?
Regardless of the comments you’ve posted about me, I am glad you are supporting a replacement for the current Treasurer.

The person who gave you permission rents one half of the duplex on a part-time basis. I rent the other on a full-time basis.
The landlord’s name is Jack Sell. He owns the property, was not asked and has never allowed political signs to be posted on his property. He had me remove the signs.
And the part about “worldwide headquarters” is me poking fun at myself.
Who is Christa Canell and why is she qualified to be the Island County Treasurer? The Island County Treasurer should have a background in accounting and be a CPA – we don’t need another politician. Wanda Grone can roll up her sleeves and get the job done. Christa Canell could not answer any of the Treasurer questions at the debate that showcased the candidates for the job. Why should I vote for her?

Since you do not really know Christa Canell, her abilities or her skills in accounting, I feel that you comments are unfounded. uninformed and quite MEAN.
Christa may not have known all of the answers to the questions that were asked at the forum but she was honest in all of the answers given.
Her abilities far exceed what you think that you know or care to look into. Which may go to prove that maybe as a voter you should not be aloud to vote until you have done your research.
Christa Canell CAN do the job and will be in the office on a daily basis working hard for the people of Island County. As with each new person going into an office there is a learning curve and time frame to adjust to the people that you will work with and for.
Ms Canell already knows many of the people that she will be working with and for she has their backing now and should she be elected to the office of Treasurer.
Christa Canell is a fast learner and a person that will take this job very seriously with the interest of the people of island County to heart and mind.
Christa Canell can roll up her selves and work with the best of them, anytime you wish to question her abilities talk to the thousands of people that she has dealt with while managing Land Title and Escrow’s Freeland office. In her job she deals with very large sums of money on a daily basis, balancing the Escrows and the office books. Her LPO Title is harder to get than an accounting CPA title. Accounting is just a small part of the LPO title.
I find the liberties that you took with Ms. Canell’s photo offensive, hurtful and untrue maybe you should take some time to really meet with Ms. Canell and get to know her and her abilities.
If you are the kind of person backing Wanda Grone it makes me wonder what kind of person Ms. Grone is if she has you as a backer, mean spirited, mud slinging and unwilling to do research.
Being nervous in front of an audience and not having been in the office of Treasurer as yet does not make Christa Canell a bad candidate for the office.
Having known Ms Canell, for a very long time, I know what kind of worker she is, her work ethics, abilities and her drive to do a job and do it RIGHT, making her the perfect candidate for the of Island County Treasurer !
She is a fast learner and will dive into the job of being Treasurer using her skills and strengths to do a GREAT job for all the people Island County .
Fighting DIRTY like you just did with you adaptation of her picture is and was not called for. Shame on you,
Hopefully Ms. Grone does not fight DIRTY nor condone your antics, that will tell us the people of Island County what kind of person she is.
I have never trusted a mud slinger nor those associated with them!
