Mitch Pelroy is starting to pile up some yardage.
The former Coupeville High School football star ripped off a 41-yard kickoff return and a 38-yard punt return Saturday for Montana Western, but it wasn’t enough to keep the Bulldogs from taking a close loss, their third in a row.
Montana Western fell 31-28 to host College of Idaho, which counts former CHS lineman Anthony Maggio among its players.
The Coyotes are 2-0 after restarting a once-vaunted program that had been idle since 1977.
Pelroy leads his squad in both kickoff returns (he’s averaging 29.2 yards a return) and punt returns (15.3) and is third on the team in all-purpose yards with 221.
He has also recorded 10 tackles from his defensive back position.
Now 1-3 on the season, Montana Western returns to action Saturday, Sept. 20 when it hosts Montana State-Northern for Homecoming.
The Bulldogs will get a rematch with College of Idaho at home Nov. 1.
