Imagine my surprise to discover I’m not who I thought I was.
With the 14th anniversary of this blog’s launch approaching, I took a brief side trip and asked Google about the “first Coupeville Sports story,” just to make sure I had the correct date.
And this was what I got.
Well, it got the date right…
But who the heck is David Svoboda, and why are our computer overlords crediting him with founding my blog??
Having written all 12,772 articles and counting on this site, I don’t remember his contribution.
Do I have a split personality I don’t know about, and everyone in Cow Town has just let me natter on without acknowledging the other idiot sharing space in my brain?
That would explain a few of the things I’ve written…
Now, when I did a brief (emphasis on very brief) internet search of David Svoboda, I found three semi-famous guys with that name.
One is a now-retired Czech athlete who won the gold medal in the pentathlon at the 2012 London Olympics.
The second is an actor from Ohio who played “Kid with Goggles” in the 1983 holiday classic A Christmas Story.
Plus, he was a mortician on one episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent and a swing dancer on a likely-riveting hour of Cold Case. So … range.
Then there’s David Svoboda, the business whiz kid who wrote Lifehacking Tips from the Million-Dollar Flight Attendant. Not coming soon to a Sno-Isle library near you.
All successes in their various fields, certainly, and yet, as far as I can remember, none have ever put finger to keyboard in the service of Coupeville Sports.
Unless you believe my now-mortal enemy, one Mr. Google AI. Or Miss. I’m not 100 percent sure on the gender choice of our computer overlords.
But I do know this — if AI can give someone else credit for 14 years of my 2 AM typing, I can take credit right back from all the David Svobodas out there.
Yes, I, David Svien, am now a gold medal-winning athlete who will be on your TV screens this holiday, while waiting for my royalty checks to arrive from that book I totally wrote (without knowing about it.)
Hey, it says so right here on the internet, so it’s got to be true.
