Be the next Brian Norris.
That’s the goal for this year’s Central Whidbey Little League All-Stars, as they follow in the proud tradition of the 2010 state champs headlined by Norris, Ben Etzell, Korbin Korzan and most of the current Coupeville High School baseball stars.
They may not win a title (but, hey, why not?), but they do get to play on, shagging fly balls and dreaming big.

There are a lot of photos, but, every once in awhile, one goes and melts down the internet by itself.
The photo above, which captures former Coupeville High School sports star Erik Wheat rockin’ the rally caps with his son Aiden (grandson of Dee at PC) at a minor league baseball game, is just such a photo.
Erik and wife Julie (Swankie), also a big Wolf star a year or two back, are in El Paso, Texas these days as Erik pursues his military career.

Which pleases his fan club.
Falcon Campbell Albertsen throws liquid smoke between the drops.
Sterba is either going to throw a beautiful heater, or rip every muscle in his back.
Wolf Kurtis Smith is suitably impressed. “Dang, son! You’re throwin’ some nasty stuff today!!”
No, Hell did not just freeze over.
But, it is true, the photos above include both Coupeville and South Whidbey High School baseball players.
What? How can this be true?!?!? After all the grief I have given the Falcons for living on the wrong section of Whidbey Island, have I softened? Am I making nice?
Possibly.
Who knows how long it’ll last.
Once high school sports kick back into action in the fall, it’s entirely likely I’ll go back to tweaking SWHS — because, after all, there are those of us who live in Coupeville, while the rest merely wish they could live here, and that’s a stone cold fact — but for now, as Wolves and Falcons join together to play American Legion baseball, we’ll show a little camaraderie.
Especially when they join together to thump on Oak Harbor.
Because good lord, there’s nothing up there in that strip mall of a Navy town to celebrate. South or Central Whidbey, yes. North Whidbey? Not so much.
And cue a whole new batch of angry “fan mail.”

Even playing out of position, Ben Etzell still brought his ‘A’ game.
Seeing time at second base, the Coupeville High School senior-to-be, who normally pitches and plays third or first for the Wolves, whacked four hits Sunday to help pace the Skagit Sox to a three-win day and a tournament title.
The Sox won four times in five games, splitting a doubleheader Friday before sweeping all three games they played Sunday.
Etzell went 4-for-8 Sunday, and was part of several double plays over the weekend, from both second and third. He also pitched in relief Friday.
