Then Jennifer Spark (left) and Co. will close their season.

It’s two-for-one, for free.

Reversing an earlier decision, the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer team will get to play its season finale at home Monday, and not have to make a second trip to Granite Falls in five days.

The Wolves and Tigers will play at 6:30 PM, if the game ahead of them is finished by then.

Why? Because, there’s already a home JV football game on the schedule for that day, with Coupeville hosting King’s at 4.

Now, with a (possibly brief) break between them, there will be back-to-back games.

So, it’ll be a long day for all involved, but it solves the problem of CHS losing a home game and the resulting money from the snack shack run by the parents of the Class of 2014.

Coupeville and Granite Falls were supposed to play on the Island Oct. 1, but a schedule flip-flop moved the game to Oct. 10.

When that rolled around, the Tigers showed up in town, but the refs didn’t. With the home team being responsible for the officials, CHS originally faced the prospect of sacrificing a home game when the makeup game was set.

With the change, Monday, and not the Saturday morning game against King’s, will become Senior Night for the Wolves. Joye Jackson and Tori Wellman will be honored before the game starts.

Once the football players get their sweaty butts off the field, that is.

A little more recent photo.

A little more recent photo.

He’s rushed for 200-plus yards in back-to-back games.

He’s about to travel into the heart of the beast Friday with his Coupeville High School teammates and face down the #9 ranked 1A team in the state in King’s, and THEY better be the ones who are worrying.

He is the fastest man in the school, a high-steppin’ blur on the gridiron who pulls in massive amounts of page views every time I write about him.

Call him JT, Rumblin’ Tumblin or #7 (he calls me Mr. Svien — when did kids get so dang polite?!?!), Jake Tumblin is gold.

And now, thanks to mom Shannon, I have the photo above, which guarantees page views rolling in as fast as the clicker can count ’em.

Solid gold.

Carson Risner

Carson Risner

The Wolves have the center of their line back. Maybe.

Making a fairly speedy recovery, Coupeville High School junior lineman Carson Risner returned to practice Wednesday for a few plays, completing one leg on his rebound from a badly hurt MCL suffered earlier in the season.

Risner has been cleared to play by his doctor, as long as he wears a brace. But, with the layoff and the continued healing, it’s uncertain how much he will play in the two remaining regular season games.

Coupeville travels to King’s this Friday, then hosts Sultan Nov. 1.

“He’s gonna try. Taking it slow,” said mom Jennie Prince. “That leg is a little weak from not using it and it ached a little at practice yesterday.”

Wolf coach Tony Maggio said he will carefully monitor the situation before deciding whether to put Risner back on the field in action, and any playing time will depend on the pain level and Risner’s mobility.

Still, either way, he will be back in uniform, which is a welcome sight for CHS fans.

Dustin Van Velkinburgh takes it to the next level.

With Coupeville High School athletic teams honoring the fight against breast cancer in October, teams have worn pink (and blue and orange for the volleyball squad, which expanded its coverage to leukemia and prostate cancer last night).

But the Coupeville High School JV football coach stepped up and did something that will stay around for some time when he allowed Brittanee Lee to sculpt the art work seen above.

Lee works for Allure Salon and Spa, which is co-owned by Coach V’s wife, Jessica, and Wendi Sjodin, who are both very passionate about the fight against breast cancer.

Football moms everywhere just got that photo to put in the Christmas card they send to Grandma.

Well, at least seven moms did, as intrepid photographer John Fisken delivers onto us these glossy, poster-ready portraits of some of the Coupeville High School varsity gridiron giants.

If you don’t see the one you want, I suggest you tackle Mr. Fisken (he’s the camera guy with the insane love of the U-Dub) the next time you see him at a Wolf game, put him in a headlock and make him shoot your boy.

Might work…
