Tonight is your last chance. Don’t miss it.

The Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad wraps its 2013 season, and bids farewell to seniors Tori Wellman and Joye Jackson starting at 6:30 at Mickey Clark Field. It’s part of a (free) doubleheader, with the Wolf JV football team playing King’s starting at 4 on the same field.

The soccer opponent is Granite Falls, a team the Wolves came close to beating the first time around.

And while there have been diehard fans who have been at every home game (some even follow the team on the road), now is the time for even the most casual of fan to get off their butt, record Monday Night Football for later viewing, and come cheer on the CHS booters.

Do it for town pride. Do it because it makes you a better person. But do it.

Twice as many wins as last year.

That’s where the still very-young Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad sits, with one final game to play Monday at home.

That contest, set to kick-off at 6:30 PM, will start with seniors Tori Wellman and Joye Jackson being recognized.

The photos above are from Saturday’s game against King’s, and are shot by traveling photo man John Fisken.

It’s a rainy, bleak, windy Whidbey kind of day, until now.

Here to save you from the afternoon blues, I arrive with a medley of sports-related photos showing the wide world of Whidbey sports.

You’re welcome.

Well, at least it was a nice day.

Sandwiched in between the previously persistent fog and the rain that has now hit Whidbey, Saturday was a beautiful slice of Fall. So, there was that.

Pure soccer fans got a treat, as well. Pure Coupeville fans, not as much, maybe.

If you wanted to see one of the top teams in the land play with precision and poise and pound on another team, there was that. Unfortunately, it was Coupeville that was being pounded on, as visiting King’s drilled them 7-0 in a game that started, and was effectively over, before noon.

The Knights are 12-3 and a viable threat for a 1A state title and they showed why, quietly dispatching the still-improving Wolves in a hail of big shots.

Beth Stella narrowly missed the hat trick, but settled for two goals and two assists to pace King’s.

The Wolves, who fell to 2-13 (double their win total from 2012), close their season with Senior Night 6:30 Monday against Granite Falls, a team they pushed hard in a 2-0 loss earlier in the week. Joye Jackson and Tori Wellman will be honored.

It’s two-for-one, for free.

Reversing an earlier decision, the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer team will get to play its season finale at home Monday, and not have to make a second trip to Granite Falls in five days.

The Wolves and Tigers will play at 6:30 PM, if the game ahead of them is finished by then.

Why? Because, there’s already a home JV football game on the schedule for that day, with Coupeville hosting King’s at 4.

Now, with a (possibly brief) break between them, there will be back-to-back games.

So, it’ll be a long day for all involved, but it solves the problem of CHS losing a home game and the resulting money from the snack shack run by the parents of the Class of 2014.

Coupeville and Granite Falls were supposed to play on the Island Oct. 1, but a schedule flip-flop moved the game to Oct. 10.

When that rolled around, the Tigers showed up in town, but the refs didn’t. With the home team being responsible for the officials, CHS originally faced the prospect of sacrificing a home game when the makeup game was set.

With the change, Monday, and not the Saturday morning game against King’s, will become Senior Night for the Wolves. Joye Jackson and Tori Wellman will be honored before the game starts.

Once the football players get their sweaty butts off the field, that is.
