Tuesday morning at 9:36 AM, stop whatever you’re doing and raise your glass.

I don’t care if you don’t have a glass. Go find one now, put some beverage in it, and have it handy.

There. Feel better?

At that exact moment, Coupeville High School senior Austin Fields will step up and tee off at the Lake Spanaway Golf Course, kicking off his third and final state golf tournament.

But keep the glass handy.

Because at 12:09 PM lil’ sis Christine, a Wolf sophomore, will raise her driver above her head, (possibly) scream “There can only be one!!” and let blast with the first shot of her second go-around at the Big Dance.

After that, it’s all about the birdies. May they rain down for the Lone Wolves.

Left to right, Austin, Christine and Mike Fields. One family, three sensational golfers.

You don’t need depth when you have quality.

Coupeville High School has exactly two golfers, and both are headed back to the state tournament just like last year.

When Wolf senior Austin Fields tees off in Lake Spanaway May 21-22, it will be the third time he’s played in the 1A state tourney. For little sister Christine, a CHS sophomore, it will be her second trip.

Christine earned the berth by shooting an 85 to finish 6th at tri-districts Tuesday, while Austin strolled in with a tie for 20th on the boys’ side after carding an 86.

Madisen Bentley of Life Christian and Ryan Wallen of Blaine were the meet medalists.

As Lone Wolves, the Fields siblings trained and traveled with Island rival South Whidbey and three of Christine’s “teammates,” — Rosie Portillo, Jenna Kaik and Hannah Cotton — also earned trips to state, though all trailed Coupeville’s best.

No Falcon boys made the cut.

Austin has back-to-back Top 40 finishes at state, while Christine tore up the course during the second day of play in 2012 and finished 8th overall in her Big Dance debut.

“They call me the Lone Wolf.”

One leg down, two to go.

Austin and Christine Fields sailed through their first postseason challenge Thursday, carding strong scores at the 1A Northwest District golf tournament in Bellingham.

Austin, a Coupeville High School senior, shot a 78 to finish in a tie for fourth, while Christine, a sophomore, chipped away for an 86, which left her just four strokes off the lead.

Blaine’s Ryan Wallen and the duo of Meridian’s Abbi Rautenberg and South Whidbey’s Jenna Kiak took home medalist honors.

Both Wolf golfers easily advanced to the Tri-District tourney, which runs May 13-14.

There, golfers from five leagues — Cascade, Northwest, Emerald City, Olympic and Nisqually — will vie for spots at the state meet. 33 boys and 17 girls will make the cut for state, which will be in Lake Spanaway May 21-22.

Christine was 8th at state as a freshman, while Austin has back-to-back top 35 finishes.

Austin Fields (in red) watches a majestic shot soar skywards.

Austin Fields went out with a bang.

Firing an 87 over 18 holes at Snohomish Golf and Country Club Monday, the Coupeville High School senior finished 10th in a field of 33 at the Cascade Conference Medalist Tournament.

The final league event of his stellar career, it was a prelude to the postseason, which kicks off Thursday. Fields and sophomore sister Christine, who shot a 90 in the girls’ competition, now head to districts.

Then, if past results are any indication, the pair will wade through tri-districts May 13-14 and on to state May 21-22. Christine placed 8th at the 1A state meet as a freshman, while Austin has had back-to-back top 40 finishes the past two seasons.

Archbishop Murphy, paced by medalist Sean Goldfinch, won the boys’ team competition Monday. Girls’ team results were not available.

“Hop in! We’re headin’ to state and I tend to speed a bit in this baby!”

Four years of bouncing around the Island to play golf came to a close Wednesday for Austin Fields.

The Coupeville High School senior, a one-man Wolf links squad, played in his final regular season match, carding a 72 over 14 holes at the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club.

While he still has putts to drain, with an appearance at the 32nd Bill Egbers Memorial Golf Tournament at Skagit Golf & Country Club Friday, followed by the post-season, which kicks off May 6, Wednesday’s match was the beginning of the end for his high school golf career.

It’s been a four-year odyssey that, because CHS doesn’t have a golf program, took him to Oak Harbor his first two seasons, then to South Whidbey the past two years.

In the early days, he was joined by Jim Nguyen. These days, it’s lil’ sis Christine, a Wolf sophomore who comprises her own Lone Wolf squad on the female side of the tee.

After Egbers, Fields will play in the Cascade Conference tourney (May 6), districts (May 13-14) and then, hopefully, make a final trip back to the state tournament May 21-22.
