The sister also rises!!

"Superstar!!"

"Lose one little match and you're right back to being a caddy ... she'd better tip well, that's all I'm sayin'!"

“Lose one little match and you’re right back to being a caddy … she’d better tip well, that’s all I’m sayin’!”

It is law. If golf is played, a Fields must win.

For the first time this season, it wasn’t Coupeville High School senior Austin Fields coming out on top, as the five-time winner let lil’ sis Christine have the spotlight instead.

The Wolf sophomore won for the third time in 2013 Monday, shooting a 36 over 14 holes in modified Stableford scoring in a match at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club. She edged South Whidbey’s Chelsea Schulz for medalist honors, while the Falcons decimated Sultan 153-61 in the team battle.

Off the Island, the elder Fields had a rare stumble after earning medalist honors in his first five matches, carding a 45 over nine holes at Blue Boy Golf and Country Club in Sultan. That left him four strokes off the pace.

The host Turks slipped past the Falcons 210-220 in the team race.

Both of the Fields have one final regular season match Wednesday, then Austin plays in the Egber’s Memorial Tournament Friday.

Postseason play kicks off for the state meet vets Monday, May 6 at the Cascade Conference tourney.

Christine Fields and her caddies.

Christine Fields and her fan club.

Right down the fairway.

That’s where Coupeville High School sophomore Christine Fields is putting the ball most times, as she fine-tunes her game and prepares for another run at the state tournament.

Playing as a one-woman Wolf squad, she held her own with her traveling and training partners from South Whidbey the past two days, putting up strong rounds in back-to-back matches.

Using modified Stableford scoring, Fields carded a 37 over nine holes Wednesday at Cedarcrest Golf and Country Club, then followed that up with a 41 over 17 holes at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club Thursday.

South Whidbey bopped Lakewood 215-102 Wednesday and edged King’s 204-174 Thursday.

Without any teammates to back her up, Fields can’t compete in the team battle, but she finished fourth in the individual showdown Thursday.

The student has become the master.

The student has become the master.

He still hasn’t lost in a regular match.

Running his streak to five, Coupeville High School senior golfer Austin Fields fired a 50 over 10 holes Monday to claim co-medalist honors at a three-team match in Langley.

It was the first time this season the Lone Wolf had shared the medalist honors, but keeps his perfect record intact.

South Whidbey beat Lakewood 270-303 in the team battle. With only one player, Coupeville doesn’t worry about that part of the equation.

Fields has two regular-season matches, and the possibility of two tournament appearances, left before postseason play begins.

Younger sister Christine, a sophomore, has four matches left before the duo tee off at the Cascade Conference tournament May 6.

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.

Austin Fields plays a golf match. Austin Fields destroys the field.

Pick a town. Pick a course. The Coupeville High School senior is going to crush your very soul this season.

Thursday he was in Duvall at the Carnation Golf and Country Club, and his hapless foes were golfers from Cedarcrest and South Whidbey, as the lone Wolf rolled to his fourth medalist win in as many matches this season.

Fields fired a 57 over 14 holes, edging his closest rival, Cedarcrest duffer Mitchell Frimodt, by three strokes.

Cedarcrest won the team match, knocking off the Falcons by 13 strokes. Not that anyone in Coupeville cares.

Back on the Island, lil’ sis Christine Fields faced off with the same two squads and finished second in her match. Playing at the Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, she carded a 26 using the Stableford scoring system, while Falcons Jenna Kiak and Rosie Portillo each recorded a 28.

"Yeah, well, Tiger didn't win this weekend either. I'll give the other guys one."

“I’ll be back!!”

Even the legends can have an off day.

After kicking off his season by handily winning each of his first three matches, Coupeville High School senior Austin Fields finally found a course he couldn’t sweet-talk Monday.

Playing in the Tom Dolan Memorial Invitational at the Everett Golf and Country Club, Fields fired a 92 over 18 holes, well back of winner Kyle Cornett of Jackson.

The defending 4A state champ, Cornett beat Anthony Allen of Arlington on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after the pair tied at the top of the leader board.

Fields was a last-minute entry into the tourney, since it’s primarily a team event, and he is a one-man Wolf boys’ golf squad. Kamiak edged Archbishop Thomas Murphy to win the team title.

As he heads back into regular match play Thursday, when he and his traveling companions from South Whidbey head to Cedarcrest, he’ll take what he learned on the course today to heart.

Then, most likely, come back to kick some tushie.

“It was a rough day. Very tough,” Fields said. “All the great ones fall at some time. Makes us human.”
