Are you ready for little league season?

It’s rainy, cold and windy out there, so obviously time to ramp up for little league.

While the weather might be trying to tell us one thing, the calendar says something different, so full speed ahead.

Central Whidbey Little League is still accepting registrations for baseball and softball, and you can deliver hard copy registrations this Saturday, Mar. 16 to Paula Peters at the fields at Rhododendron Park.

CWLL is also in need of umpires, volunteers, and board members.

With a bunch of players set to make the jump from little league to high school ball, the board stands to lose a chunk of parents.

Get ready for diamond days

Frost on the ground? Must be time to start thinking about Little League.

Seriously, though, while it might feel like we’re still in the middle of winter, there is a hint of spring in the air, at least on the internet.

Registration for Central Whidbey Little League baseball and softball kicks off Tuesday, Jan. 15 and you can get your little sluggers signed up without having to leave your house.

Also, if you’ve ever thought about wanting to return to the field yourself, CWLL is looking for people interested in coaching T-Ball, Minors baseball and Rookie baseball.

Sluggers hold birthday bash-a-thon!!

One run for every birthday candle.

OK, maybe not, but close.

Playing on mom Jennifer’s birthday Wednesday, Chloe Marzocca sparkled in the pitcher’s circle, while her teammates rained down runs in support.

By the time the younger Marzocca and Co. were done, the Central Whidbey Little League Minors softball squad had crushed the host North Whidbey Dragons 15-6.

Chloe Marzocca started and tossed two shut-down innings for the Hammerheads, while Mia Farris came on to close the game with two solid frames of her own.

CWLL scored the maximum five runs in each of the first two innings to roll out to a 10-1 lead and never looked back.

Taylor Brotemarkle, who “played awesome at shortstop” according to coach Fred Farris, paced the Hammerheads with two hits.

She was joined on the hit parade by Teagan Calkins, Madison McMillan, Chloe Marzocca, Mayleen Weatherford and Naosha Rose, who each added a base-knock.

Scorin’ runs, by the ton!!

The Hammerheads are out for blood.

Thumping teams everywhere they play, the Central Whidbey Little League Minors softball squad is leaving a trail of mauled foes in their wake.

The latest to fall was NW White, which was blown out 18-6 at Volunteer Park in Oak Harbor in a game which “wasn’t as close as the score.”

The Hammerheads split pitching duties between Chloe Marzocca, Mia Farris and Taylor Brotemarkle, who put a final stamp on the game by whiffing all three batters she faced.

“The team was very clean in the field and on the bases,” said CWLL coach Fred Farris. “Everyone contributed.”

Central racked up six hits, with Madison McMillan leading the way with two base-knocks.

Mia Farris, Jada Heaton, Katie Marti and Mayleen Weatherford each added a hit, with Marti and Farris collecting two RBI apiece.

Brotemarkle walked three times, McMillan pilfered three stolen bases and Teagan Calkins filled up the stat sheet with three runs, three steals and two walks (both times being plunked by pitches).

The Hammerheads got something from everyone, with Naosha Rose, Sydney Wallace, Brooke Van Velkinburgh and Hayden Daniel all scoring.

We don’t lose on our diamond!!

Can’t stop the winning.

Day two of Central Whidbey Little League play was a lot like day one, with the home town squad successfully defending its diamond.

Monday, both CWLL Minors softball and baseball knocked off North Whidbey teams, and Tuesday, it was time for the Majors baseball squad to get its moment in the spotlight.

Fueled by sharp pitching from Chase Anderson and Levi Pulliam and timely hitting from Landon Roberts, Central Whidbey nipped the South Whidbey Shockers 3-1.

CWLL fell behind 1-0 in the early going, then chipped its way back into the game thanks to “excellent base running.”

Central Whidbey benefited from being willing to get a little black and blue as well, with several players getting aboard thanks to being plunked by South Whidbey pitches.

Peyton Caveness, Jonny Porter and Roberts scored for CWLL, while Anderson and Pulliam were spot-on while working on the mound.

The duo combined to whiff seven batters, with Pulliam notching five of those K’s.

“All in all I am very proud of our young Majors team,” said Central coach Jon Roberts. “We knew we would be facing stiff competition after we took the South Whidbey Pope Tourney last spring as Minors.

“We were really excited to see how the boys reacted to much faster pitchers,” he added. “For the most part we did OK, but there is room to improve!”
