Want 2017 to be better than 2016?

There’s one simple way you can step up, join the “in crowd” and help make sure Coupeville athletics continue to soar.

Join the booster club.

Now, today, not tomorrow.

Unless you’re busy today, than tomorrow works, I guess.

But either way, do it soon. Really soon.

It’s easy to do, it’s rewarding (on many levels) and it shows, deep down, that you’re a good person. So, how can you say no?

Spoiler alert: you can’t.

The Booster Club is the engine which drives Wolf athletics, and it’s an invaluable resource for CHS and CMS coaches, athletes, parents and fans.

They’re the ones going above and beyond, from funding scholarships to buying varsity letters to providing snacks for teams stuck on long bus and ferry trips to clothing Wolf coaches in snazzy polo shirts.

How to help?

You don’t have to go to all the meetings and join the inner circle and get full voting rights (though you certainly can).

The first step is always the easiest and it simply involves you getting out your checkbook, credit card or random wad o’ cash and becoming a supporter of the Booster Club’s efforts.

There are four membership levels:

$25 makes you a Wolf backer.

$50 buys you an individual membership.

$75 nets you a family membership.

$125 gets you a business membership (with Wolf flag included).

PS — The secret fifth membership, known informally as the “Bill Gates level,” is if you step in and personally finance an entirely new football field (with domed stadium) on your own.

Do that and the community gives you a parade and carries you through town on its shoulders, shouting your name as chocolate and roses rain down from the skies above for hours on end.

To join the Booster Club, there’s a couple of quick and easy options.

You could mail a check (written to “Coupeville Booster Club”) to P.O. Box 452, Coupeville, WA 98239.

Pop over to the Club’s Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Coupeville-Booster-Club/83614917107 and use a credit card.

Or swing by the club’s booth at Wolf games and see the magic happen in person.

Do it today. Your soul will thank you.

Genna Wright wants you to join the Coupeville Booster Club. You don't want to make Genna sad, do you? Yeah, I thought not. (John Fisken photo)

Ah, so the headline suckered you in, did it?

Nice … nice.

So, now that I’ve got your attention (at least for a few seconds), I want to seize the chance to try and convince you to join the Coupeville Booster Club.

You’ve thought about it. You’ve come close, but you just need that final shove.

Well, I’ve got two hands and I know how to use them!

But seriously, this is a no-brainer, people.

Coupeville High School's bleachers -- state of the art when disco was king.

A football field/track oval built after the Reagan administration? It is to dream.

Passage of the levy would help finish the plan to bring the school’s baseball, softball and soccer fields all together.

Personally, I would like super-cushioned bleachers that come equipped with heating pads and butt-massagers and…

Oh, we’re not getting those unless Bill Gates swoops in with some sweet, sweet cash? OK, well, I guess I’ll settle for some bleachers that actually unfold.

There was a chunk of the basketball season this year when we were unable to use the bleachers right behind the Coupeville bench, because the vintage 1979 wooden seats refused to pop out.

They’re tired and they want to be retired.

Go outside and it’s the same, where Makana Stone, one of the fastest runners in the state, practices on a track oval that was brand new and shiny 30 years ago.

Now, it can’t even host a home meet, which means Wolf fans are denied the chance to see Stone, Lathom Kelley, Sylvia Hurlburt, Jared Helmstadter and Co. in action for an entire season.

Why do I bring these things up?

Because there is a simple answer.

Vote Yes on the school district’s current levy and we can fix the bleachers, the track and a ton of other things.

Like the elementary school bathrooms that look like something out of the 1840’s.

But don’t take my (slightly informed) word for it.

Get off your duff and attend one of the three informational meetings/tours of the facilities that the district still has planned.

Velvet-voiced Superintendent Dr. Jim Shank will be your guide to what is, what could be and what should be.

The meetings:

Monday, Mar. 30 (5:30-6:00) Elementary school library

Tuesday, Mar. 31 (6:00-6:30) Middle School foyer

Monday, April 13 (6:00-7:00) Gym complex and athletic fields

In the meantime, you can pop over to http://coupeville.k12.wa.us/levy/ for much more info.

Think about the kids.

But, mainly, think about making it easier for me — the one who has to sit on those bleachers six months a year.

My fanny demands your Yes vote.
