Locked and loaded.

Swinging into mid-season shape, Coupeville High School senior Christine Fields earned co-medalist honors during a three-team golf match at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club Monday.

Fields, the lone Wolf to tee it up, did battle with her training partners from South Whidbey and the rich school interlopers from Archbishop Thomas Murphy.

She carded a 34 in modified Stableford scoring over 12 holes.

Fields, a three-time state meet veteran who placed fifth in 1A as a junior, has three regular season matches left.

She travels to ATM April 23, then wraps up her final campaign with stops at King’s May 4 and Sultan May 6.

After that comes her final trek through the high school postseason, kicking off with the Cascade Conference meet May 11.

Fear the Lone Wolf.

Fear the Lone Wolf.

Christine Fields wasn’t satisfied with her performance Thursday.

“Chipping ruined my whole game!,” moaned the Coupeville High School senior golfer.

Actually, though, a quick look at the stat sheet shows that, chipping aside, it wasn’t that bad a day, as she scored 22 points under modified Stableford scoring over nine holes at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club.

That earned her a third-place tie among 11 golfers.

It just wasn’t totally what the three-time state meet vet wanted to see.

“Taking it in stride, gives me more to practice so I can be prepared for district and the parts following,” Fields said.

South Whidbey’s Tara Moore was the day’s medalist, with a 27, and the Falcons crushed Lakewood 108-43 in the team competition.

Fields, the lone Wolf to golf, trains and travels with South Whidbey.

She tied with South Whidbey’s Grace Stringer, trailing just Moore and fellow Falcon Kolby Heggenes (24).

Christine Fields, ruler of golf courses and destroyer of souls.

The Queen is back. Long live the Queen.

Beset by rain, illness and family vacations, Coupeville High School junior Christine Fields has only competed in a handful of golf matches this season.

But a handful is all she needs to hold on to her crown.

Staring down the best South Whidbey and Archbishop Thomas Murphy could throw at her Monday, the one-woman Wolf wrecking crew rolled to an impressive win.

Playing at her home-away-from-home course at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, Fields carded a 29 using modified Stableford scoring.

That easily brought her medalist honors, with South Whidbey’s Rosie Portillo (26) the only other duffer within shouting distance.

In the team competition, the host Falcons bounced ATM 75-42.

A little layoff didn’t hurt Christine Fields.

A combination of rain-outs and a trip with her family have kept the Coupeville High School junior a bit limited when it comes to actual competition on the golf course this spring.

But, when she has been out on the links, the two-time state meet competitor has been as good as anyone on Whidbey Island.

Thursday, playing against Sultan and her training companions from South Whidbey at Useless Bay Golf and Country Club, the lone Wolf carded a 23 using Stableford scoring, finishing second in the individual competition.

Fields has five matches left on the schedule before postseason play kicks off in early May.

She and the Falcons play host to Archbishop Thomas Murphy Monday, April 21, travel to Cedarcrest (April 24), King’s (May 1) and Sultan (May 5), then return back to Useless Bay for the season finale against Lakewood May 7.
