It’s true. A little over two weeks after a vicious staph infection in his knee threatened to rob him of the rest of his senior football season, the Coupeville High School all-conference lineman is expected to suit up and take the field tonight for Homecoming.
He will be limited a bit in his return to the gridiron, playing just on defense and not going both ways. But it’s a remarkable bounce-back for Maggio and could provide an emotional boost for the Wolves as they try to get a two-game winning streak going with a victory over Granite Falls.
Coupeville will be almost at full-force, with just two players — Gunnar Langvold and Paul Schmakeit — not expected to suit. With Langvold, the team’s starting quarterback, out, last week’s hero, Josh Bayne, will get his second start under center. Fullback Brett Arnold is nursing a hurt knee, as well, but is expected to play.
Kickoff is 7 PM at Mickey Clark Field.
