The future looks bright.
All six of the players who teamed up to account for Coupeville High School’s 28 touchdowns this season were underclassmen and would be expected to be back on the field in the red and black in 2013.
Juniors Bryce Fleming and Jake Tumblin topped the end-zone hustlers with nine scores apiece, while the team’s two quarterbacks, junior Gunnar Langvold (four TD’s) and sophomore Josh Bayne (three) were hot on their heels. Junior running back Brett Arnold (two against Orcas Island) and freshman receiver Wiley Hesselgrave (who scored his debut TD in a playoff game) round out the Wolf scorers for 2012.
Tumblin (787 yards) and Arnold (565) paced a Coupeville squad which pounded away for almost 2,200 yards on the ground. The support crew included Fleming (348), Bayne (249), senior Danny Savalza (98), Langvold (78), junior Wade Schaef (25) and junior Jared Dickson (three carries for zero net yards).
When the Wolves did go to the air, they got contributions from four quarterbacks, with Langvold and Bayne getting the majority of the snaps.
Langvold completed 26 of 64 passes for 418 yards and four touchdowns, while Bayne connected on 23 of 55 passes, netting 341 yards and four touchdowns. Tumblin (5 of 24 for 84 yards) and sophomore Korbin Korzan (4 of 11 for 63 yards) rounded out the hurlers.
Tumblin (16 for 350 yards) and Fleming (14 for 192) were the primary targets for the air attack, followed by seniors Riley Boyd (7 for 167) and Kole Kellison (6 for 81). Schaef (4 for 61), Arnold (2 for 6), sophomore Aaron Wright (1 for 18), Savalza (1 for 15), Bayne (1 for 12) and Hesselgrave (1 for 4) also hauled in passes.
