Win one for the thumb, T-Birds!!
It’s that weird time of the season.
Fall sports are done. Winter sports haven’t really kicked in yet, beyond the first weeks of practice. A man needs something to write about.
So, in my continuing efforts to circumvent the very name of this blog, I have to take a moment to let you know that my alma mater, Tumwater High School, and my 9th grade health teacher, Sid Otton (AKA the winningest coach in state history), beat Prosser 35-21 in the state football semifinals Saturday night.
The win propels the T-Birds to their 6th title game and second in three seasons. Now 12-1 on the year, Tumwater faces off with defending 2A champ Lynden Saturday, Dec. 1 in the Tacoma Dome.
And let’s not forget this little fact — THS has NEVER lost a title game under Otton. As in NEVER, EVER.
1987, 1989 and 1990 as a 3A school. 1993 as a 4A school. 2010 as a 2A school.
Otton, who got his start many, many years ago right here in Coupeville, doesn’t know how to lose. It’s that simple. When you play under the NGUNNGU banner (Never Give Up, Never Never Give Up), adding another title is destiny.
