Two degrees.
That’s how close Coupeville High School was to a state 1A football title this season, it seems.
Well, at least to the team that won the title, that is.
In the world of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, everyone can be connected, and the Wolves connect to Montesano, which beat Royal 43-28 Saturday at the Tacoma Dome, in just two clicks.
Coupeville played, and lost to King’s in a Cascade Conference game this year (unless you talk to league AD’s, who want to call it a non-conference game … but that’s a different story), and then unbeaten King’s was upset in the playoffs by the eventual state champs.
Therefore, two degrees.
How to get closer? The Wolves will just have to make a playoff run next season and do what King’s couldn’t do — take out Montesano. Then it’ll be one degree.
So, the only question is, Coupeville, how bad do you want it? You know Montesano’s players are already out there today, working to get back. Are you?
