Athletic.net, you have betrayed me!
The web site which posts high school track and field results messed up Thursday and led me (and others) to believe that Coupeville High School fab frosh Makana Stone had finally discovered what it felt like not to finish first in an event.
Not so!
The original results from a four-team meet in Sultan had King’s winning the girls’ 4 x 200 race, with the Wolves, who were missing the vacationing Madison Tisa McPhee, finishing third. That would have left a (very) small smudge on Stone’s record.
BUT NOT SO FAST, SKIPPY!!
The event was posted incorrectly, and Coupeville not only won, but barely missed a school record. With Stone and fellow freshman Sylvia Hurlburt being joined by senior Jai’Lysa Hoskins and sophomore Marisa Etzell, Coupeville broke the tape in one minute, 51.79 seconds.
That means Stone’s record reverts to 18-0 through five high school meets.
So, now you know … and knowing is half the battle.
