“It’s a bird! It’s a plane!! It’s Super Zane!!!” (John Fisken photo)

Zane Bundy turns 15 today.

Let that sink in.

The little kid who used to hang out at Videoville, the slightly older little kid who used to hang out at David’s DVD Den, will be a sophomore at Coupeville High School next fall.

Oh, and he can fly now too. So there’s that.

“The show’s over! Go home!!”

Spring sports are done, but the excess pile of photos, they linger on forever.

Thanks to photo whizzes like Shelli Trumbull and John Fisken and a thousand other clickers out there, we were able to get a ton (yes, literally a ton) of pics this season.

And while every sport was covered, baseball certainly had the most images frozen on cameras.

So, here are a few more, to remind you of a time when bats and balls ruled the afternoons.

Oh, and the first photo? I know, it’s not baseball. But, it is a parting shot from the Page Hit King, so tough. It stays.

Playing for one of the final times before Coupeville loses him to Vienna, Dawson d’Almeida showed continued evidence of being a soccer prodigy.

The younger brother of former Wolf great Amanda d’Almeida, who lettered as a freshman himself this season on the pitch, he will be following his parents overseas next school year.

Until then, he’s content to whip the local talent.

Celebrating his 15th birthday, Dawson combined with four other boys — three from Oak Harbor and one from Sedro-Woolley — to capture first in the boys 13-15 division at a 3v3 soccer tournament over the weekend. The local booters won the final 5-3.

“Not a bad way to spend a birthday weekend for a soccer fanatic!,” said proud dad Dan d’Almeida.

Jordan Wilcox

Jordan Wilcox

Still alive.

Bouncing back from an extra-innings loss, the Western Washington University baseball team knocked Iowa out of the National Club Baseball Association Division 1 World Series in Tampa Monday.

With former Coupeville High School star Jordan Wilcox chipping in with a hit, a walk and a run, the Vikings toppled the Hawkeyes 6-3 in a loser-out game and advanced to the semifinals.

Western (2-1) will face Penn State (2-0) Tuesday. Win that and they’ll get a second crack at the Nittany Lions Wednesday.

Win both and they play in the title game Thursday against either James Madison (the team that beat them) or Florida.

Against Iowa, Western broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the fourth, then added two insurance runs in the fifth, more than enough as their hurlers shut down the Hawkeyes after the second inning.

Wilcox is hitting .333 with three RBI in the World Series, and added three more assists and a pair of putouts while patrolling second base for the Vikings.
