The firefighters hold the crown, but the cops want it back.
Whidbey Island’s first responders will square off 6 PM Saturday, Dec. 14 in the Coupeville High School gym in a basketball battle royale.
At stake, bragging rights for another year (the firemen won last year), while the event itself will benefit local children and an Oak Harbor family going through a horrifying ordeal.
Toys collected will be donated to North and Central Whidbey school districts, while ticket sales will benefit the Goheen family, who lost twin 17-year-old daughters Janeah and Janesah in a Halloween-night car accident in Anacortes.
