A possible concussion during last weekend’s summer football scrimmage may have been a good thing for Tyler Cermak.
The Coupeville High School sophomore went in for a check-up after last weekend’s match-up with Lakeside, and while doctors checked him for concussion symptoms, they found something far worse.
An MRI showed Cermak has a tumor on the left front part of his brain.
It’s not known yet whether the tumor is cancerous or benign. Cermak will head to Children’s Hospital in Seattle Wednesday with his parents to plan for surgery.
“Thank God he was on the field that day and got that concussion so he could get tested,” said CHS football coach Tony Maggio.
While the tumor will keep Cermak off the playing field, he plans on staying with the Wolves as a team manager.
For CHS fans who want to send him best wishes, Tyler can be contacted at 17thargrave@coupeville.k12.wa.us.
“I could use the support,” Cermak said. “Thank you!”
