They get by with a little help from their friends.
The Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad is back in control of its playoff destiny thanks to La Conner upsetting Lopez Island 6-1 Tuesday night.
The loss prevents the Lobos, who have finished their regular season schedule, from clinching the third and final playoff berth from the Northwest 2B/1B League.
It also leaves the door wide open for the Wolves.
They sit three points behind Lopez (20-17), and a win Thursday at home against Friday Harbor (4:00 PM kickoff) in the regular season finale gives CHS the three points necessary to force a stalemate.
If Coupeville loses (zero points) or ties (one point), Lopez escapes with the berth.
Should the Wolves and Lobos finish in a tie, the teams would meet in a tiebreaker game to decide who goes to the playoffs, with date, time, and location for that hypothetical game still up in the air.
For now, this is where things sit heading to Thursday:
| School | League | Points | Overall |
| MV Christian | 11-0-0 | 33 | 13-2-1 |
| Friday Harbor | 8-3-0 | 24 | 8-7-0 |
| Lopez Island | 6-4-2 | 20 | 6-5-2 |
| Coupeville | 5-4-2 | 17 | 6-5-3 |
| La Conner | 4-5-2 | 14 | 4-9-2 |
| PC Christian | 2-9-0 | 6 | 2-9-0 |
| Orcas Island | 0-11-0 | 0 | 1-13-0 |
