“The show’s over! Go home!!”

Spring sports are done, but the excess pile of photos, they linger on forever.

Thanks to photo whizzes like Shelli Trumbull and John Fisken and a thousand other clickers out there, we were able to get a ton (yes, literally a ton) of pics this season.

And while every sport was covered, baseball certainly had the most images frozen on cameras.

So, here are a few more, to remind you of a time when bats and balls ruled the afternoons.

Oh, and the first photo? I know, it’s not baseball. But, it is a parting shot from the Page Hit King, so tough. It stays.

Jordan Wilcox

Jordan Wilcox

Still alive.

Bouncing back from an extra-innings loss, the Western Washington University baseball team knocked Iowa out of the National Club Baseball Association Division 1 World Series in Tampa Monday.

With former Coupeville High School star Jordan Wilcox chipping in with a hit, a walk and a run, the Vikings toppled the Hawkeyes 6-3 in a loser-out game and advanced to the semifinals.

Western (2-1) will face Penn State (2-0) Tuesday. Win that and they’ll get a second crack at the Nittany Lions Wednesday.

Win both and they play in the title game Thursday against either James Madison (the team that beat them) or Florida.

Against Iowa, Western broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the top of the fourth, then added two insurance runs in the fifth, more than enough as their hurlers shut down the Hawkeyes after the second inning.

Wilcox is hitting .333 with three RBI in the World Series, and added three more assists and a pair of putouts while patrolling second base for the Vikings.

Nine outs from a spot in the national semifinals, the Western Washington University baseball team hit a snag.

Blowing a four-run lead in the seventh Sunday, the Vikings fell 6-5 to James Madison in 10 innings.

While the loss didn’t knock former Coupeville High School star Jordan Wilcox and Co. out of the National Club Baseball Association Division 1 World Series, it did make their trip a little tougher.

Western, seeded seventh in the eight-team field, will face third-seeded Iowa in a loser-out game Monday in Tampa. Win that one and they live on to play fourth-seeded Penn State, which joins James Madison as the only currently unbeaten squads in the double-elimination tourney.

Second-seed Illinois, which lost to Western in the opener, and fifth-seed California, have been knocked out, so the Vikings have already beaten their initial seeding.

Against James Madison, the Vikings shot out to a 5-1 lead before surrendering a four-run rally in the bottom of the seventh. The Dukes won the game on a sac fly in the bottom of the tenth.

Wilcox, a baseball and basketball standout at CHS, continued his strong play.

He whacked an RBI single (his third RBI in two games at the World Series) and eked out a walk, leaving his series average at .375.

In the field, Wilcox chipped in with two assists and five putouts while playing second base.

The smallest school in the field is a step closer to winning a national title.

Sparked by Coupeville High School grad Jordan Wilcox, the Western Washington University baseball team erupted for a nine-run eighth inning Friday in Tampa, shocking second-seeded Illinois 14-6 in its opening game at the National Club Baseball Association Division 1 World Series.

The Vikings will now play Sunday afternoon against James Madison, which toppled third-seeded Iowa.

The tourney is a complicated double-elimination format, but the easiest way to break things down would be for WWU to win three straight from here out and give Wilcox and Co. a title.

The former Wolf, who starts at second base for the Vikings, banged out two hits, knocked in two runs, scored twice, stole a base and had three assists in the field Friday.

Western crunched 17 hits in an offensive-happy game.

Experience pays off.

As the only senior on the Coupeville High School baseball squad, Drew Chan led the awards haul at his team’s season-ending banquet Thursday night.

He took a 4-year Award (“For putting up with me for that long,” chucked Wolf coach Willie Smith) and shared the Captain’s Award with juniors Ben Etzell and Jake Tumblin.

Earning letters were Josh Bayne, Kyle Bodamer, Chan, Aaron Curtin, Etzell, Korbin Korzan, Morgan Payne, Wade Schaef, Kurtis Smith, Aaron Trumbull and Tumblin.

Taking home Participation Certificates were Joey Edwards, Brian Norris (injured on the eve of the first game, but still capable of playing a mean game of “Bejeweled” on the team iPad while helping “keep stats”), Cole Payne and Isaac Vargas.
