Michael Golden

A former short-time Coupeville Middle School football coach has been sentenced to 71 months in prison after pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud.

Michael Golden worked with the Wolf gridiron program in 2017, before moving back to Alabama.

He was charged with a federal crime in 2023, one which carried a maximum sentence of 20 years.

U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge Carlton L. Peeples state that Golden bilked investors out of more than $4.7 million.

Golden pled guilty in April and was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge R. David Proctor this week.

He faces three years of supervised release after serving his sentence.

Golden was the founder and owner of three companies — Wolf-Tek, LLC, Mountain Top Timber, and DroneTek, Inc.

In the plea agreement, federal authorities state that between January 2018 and October 2023, he duped more than 40 investors.

They say he misrepresented the value of his businesses, telling investors the companies were about to be sold for millions of dollars to Amazon and other large companies.

Golden also stated, falsely, that he had “timber leases and an ability to harvest timber for profit,” and that “he had hundreds of pre-orders for drones that he simply needed capital to fulfill.”

Golden gave some investors Promissory Notes in which he falsely promised lucrative returns on investments within a short period of time.

Federal authorities also state that he is believed to have “defrauded a new victim eight days after originally signing a plea agreement” and had his bond revoked for “contacting victims and making false promises to them regarding payment.”

The FBI led the investigation, with assistance from the Alabama Securities Commission.

Michael Golden

A former Coupeville Middle School football coach has been charged with a federal crime, with authorities alleging he defrauded investors more than $3 million.

Michael Golden was an assistant coach with the Wolf gridiron program for several months in 2017, before moving back to Alabama.

He has been charged with one count of wire fraud, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail.

The announcement was made Friday by Northern District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Prim Escalona and FBI Special Agent in Charge Carlton Peeples.

The complaint against Golden, 48, alleges as founder and owner of three businesses, he duped investors between January 2018 and July 2022.

Those companies are Wolf-Tek LLC, MountainTop Timber LLC, and DroneTek Inc.

According to the complaint, Golden is alleged to have misrepresented his businesses to investors in multiple ways.

This includes stating he had timber leases and a way to harvest said timber for profit, that he had hundreds of pre-orders for drones, and that his businesses were about to be sold for millions of dollars to Amazon and other companies.

It is also alleged Golden gave investors promissory notes in which he misrepresented his ability to repay.

The charges state Golden defrauded investors to the tune of $3.5 million dollars and used the money to pay back prior investors and for personal expenses.

The investigation of the case was conducted by the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Rummage is prosecuting the case.

Brian Roundy, saving the world one tweet at a time.

Brian Roundy, saving the world one tweet at a time.

Brian Roundy just took Philly’s finest out behind the woodshed, and got his moment in the national spotlight in return.

The former Coupeville High School basketball big man (and Videoville employee!), who now works for 2K Games in San Francisco, is an avid tweeter.

So, when Joyce Evans of Fox 29 TV in Philadelphia tried to tie in the end of “Breaking Bad” with an upcoming news report on six people being shot, Roundy was ready to deliver the resounding, knee-buckling rejection.

Evans tweet: “Thought “Breaking Bad” was hot last Sunday? @FOX29philly See who’s breakin’ bad in SW Philly leavin’ 6 people SHOT – Tonite at Ten!

Roundy’s golden response mere moments later: Did you catch Gravity in 3D this weekend? Learn how gravity left 3DEAD after bridge collapse in Philly, TONIGHT at TEN! #JoyceEvansTweets.

It didn’t stop there, however, as Entertainment Weekly picked up the story, and Roundy’s tweet, and splashed it across their website. Take a gander at http://popwatch.ew.com/2013/10/07/breaking-bad-joyce-evans-twitter/ and bask in one of Coupeville’s best at the top of his game.

slap1OK, enough is enough.

It is time (probably past time) for me to act like an adult and shut down the verbal slap-fest that has been raging over on my story about Hayley Newman quitting the South Whidbey High School girls’ basketball team.

What began as a very South Whidbey-style discussion, with eloquent, civil comments on both sides, degenerated into name-calling, smears, wild allegations and a few comments so ripe even I didn’t let them go through.

I’m not saying it wasn’t entertaining from the outside, because it was, but the truth is real people are being smeared on both sides, and it’s not fair for people to anonymously post wild allegations without having to back it up.

Also, I have a real job, and can’t spend 24/7 on here, parsing every comment to decide if it pushes the line, bends that line or completely obliterates it.

So, all 32 comments are gone and the the comments are locked on that story.

If you have proof of your allegations, I am very easy to contact, as South Whidbey High School officials will attest.

In fact, I will be in the stands in Langley again tonight, when the Coupeville boys’ squad faces off with the Falcons in a district playoff game. Since many of you have looked at the “Who’s responsible for this stuff?” section on here, you have a pretty good idea of what I look like.

I stand 100% behind the original story and fully believe I did the right thing running it. You can like me for that, you can hate me for that. Your call.

But for now you can’t call each other hookers and whores and criminals and scum in the comment section (well, for that story at least…).

Do that in person — it has more of an impact.
