Morgan Stevens

Morgan Stevens is devoting her time to helping others in need.

The 2022 Coupeville High School grad is the latest in a string of former Wolves who have stepped up and embraced the first responder life.

Stevens, who played basketball and softball at CHS, is following in the footsteps of her parents, Brent and Kristi – a firefighter and ER nurse, respectively.

Morgan recently landed a job as an EMT with Northwest Ambulance Critical Care Transport.

She starts April 24, with a week of new hire training, followed by field training.

After that, Stevens will work three 12–14-hour shifts per week while being stationed in Everett.

Her new company also has stations in Mountlake Terrace and Burlington, and she hopes to work her way back closer to Whidbey if a fulltime position opens at the latter.

For now, the former Wolf is sky-high about her new direction in life.

“It’s been a long process getting my license, but I am SO excited to finally get to use it!!,” Stevens said.

The business is closing, but the memories will remain. (Photo property Salon Blue)

Four weeks until the final ‘do.

Salon Blue, a popular hair salon which has helped anchor Front Street in Coupeville — and been one of my strongest supporters here at Coupeville Sports — is shutting down at the end of April.

The news was announced Sunday on Facebook:

It is with much gratitude that we announce that Salon Blue will be closing at the end of the month.

We are all incredibly appreciative of your support.

Our years with such amazing clients have been a gift.

Janine and Naomie will both be retiring and moving.

Candice will be relocating to Salon Lux in Oak Harbor.

We are looking forward to new adventures while looking back on our time together with love and thankfulness in our hearts.

“Let there be … FIRE!” (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Burn, baby, burn.

And click, baby, click.

The Oak Harbor Fire Department was in full-on training mode Saturday, razing a building over by the North Whidbey Help House, and wanderin’ photo clicker John Fisken was along for the soot-stained ride.

The pics above and below are courtesy him but are just the beginning of what he shot.

Oak Harbor High School stage star Maria Andelmi wonders, Does Your Mother KnowThe Winner Takes It All … When All is Said and Done? (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Do I like ABBA?

I am a human being with working grey matter (at least a little bit…) so, of course, I do.

Plus, I also enjoy access to free photos, so keeping alive my tradition of sponging off of John Fisken for glossy pics, here’s a look at Oak Harbor High School’s ongoing production of Mamma Mia!

The school’s first musical in five years, it runs Feb. 16-18 and 23-25.

It’s Christmas for gardeners.

The Deer Lagoon Grange in Langley is ground zero for veggie lovers, with an annual seed swap set to go down Saturday, Feb. 18 from 9 AM until noon.

The grange is located at 5142 Bayview Road, and the event is open to the public.

Bring your seeds. Come to get some in return. And you never know what info you might pick up from fellow soil enthusiasts.

“Love to see you all there,” said event organizer Sarah Kirkconnell.

“This is about community. Build the community you want, that shares knowledge and skills.”

Sno-Isle Libraries previously ran seed swaps but discontinued the practice during the height of the pandemic.

So Kirkconnell and company stepped up to fill a need last year and are keeping it going this time around.

“Not having a seed swap yearly was a huge loss in people coming together,” Kirkconnell said.

“People saw the sign and stopped in.

“They were just so happy to socialize with other people who love gardening.”
