Hammer: "I'm just gonna crush the ball off the interstate, thanks!!"

Hammer: “I’m just gonna crush the ball so far you’re still gonna be lookin’ for it when it gets dark, fool…”

They hit the road and never stopped hitting.

Three Coupeville High School softball stars — senior Madeline Roberts and juniors Hailey Hammer and Madeline Strasburg — played for a select squad based out of Lake Stevens this summer.

The Phantom drew players from numerous schools, including Mt. Si, Granite Falls and Stanwood, and tournament play took them across the state and up into Canada.

Along the way, Roberts and Strasburg showed off speed to burn on the base paths and Hammer wielded a mighty bat, bashing a grand slam during the state tourney.

With fellow Wolf junior sensation McKayla Bailey playing for another select squad, the continued improvement and fine-tuning of skills should show up next year when the quartet return to anchor the CHS squad for coaches David and Amy King.

Canada was not prepared.

They knew Coupeville was sending some of its best softball sluggers across the border for a high-stakes tournament.

Madeline Roberts was going to run wild on the base paths. Hailey Hammer was going to blast deep bombs with a flick of the wrist. Madeline Strasburg was going to do a little bit of everything, and be 7% cooler than everyone else while doing it.

But they had no clue Hammer Time would forever change the way they thought of their hotel ice machines.

Linda Hammer, ladies and gentlemen, the scourge of the Canadian ice machine Mafia!!

Then clamps down defensively on the hardcourt.

Then clamps down defensively on the hardcourt.

It’s a busy summer for Aaron Curtin.

The Coupeville High School junior is one of four Wolves who are doing double duty, playing American Legion baseball, then swapping uniforms and playing hoops with their CHS teammates in a summer league.

Senior Morgan Payne, junior Aaron Trumbull and sophomore Cole Payne are the other three guys pulling double duty, while fellow Wolves Kurtis Smith and Ben Etzell are sticking to the diamond.

On the softball field, Hailey Hammer, Madeline Roberts, Madeline Strasburg and McKayla Bailey are busy being awesome, while a group of Wolves led by seniors Breeanna Messner and Amanda Fabrizi recently went to a basketball camp.

Toss in the CHS football, volleyball and cheer squads, which have already had practices, while individual players such as senior gridiron giants Nick Streubel and Jake Tumblin are bouncing from camp to camp, and there seems to be a Wolf playing somewhere every day.

Regardless of the sport, Coupeville’s best are fine-tuning their games, using the off-season to hone their skills as we head towards the 2013-2014 school year.

Let the anticipation build.

The future of Wolf sports -- l to r, McKenzie, Molly and McKayla Bailey. (Donna Bailey photo)

The third Bailey sister is just as awesome as the first two.

Mollie Bailey, lil’ sis of Coupeville High School athletic superstars McKayla (soccer, basketball, softball) and McKenzie (volleyball, basketball, tennis), is making a name for herself as a softball player.

One of two Central Whidbey players on a North Whidbey 9/10 Little League All-Star softball squad (along with Chelsea Prescott), Mollie is now state-bound after she and her teammates captured a district title.

The Whidbey team erased a five-run deficit to smack Sedro Woolley 17-7 Monday to snare the District 11 title.

Now they head to La Center July 13-20 for the state tournament, which will mean a lot of driving for mom Donna, as she tries to bounce between events. McKayla is playing in Canada in her own softball extravaganza at the same time.

Eat my shorts, Canada!!

Only one Whidbey Island news outlet has the exclusive photos from the Coupeville sports wedding of the year, and it ain’t any of the ones owned by the Canadian Corporate Overlords up there in Moosejaw.

Thanks to intrepid photographer, world-class waitress, one-time softball sensation (and all-around nice person) Emma Puharic, we bring you images from the union of former Wolf star athletes Ian Smith and Allyson Crichton, who were wed Friday.

Wedding photos? I feel so semi-classy and all.

Suck on that, Canada!!!!

And the semi-classiness is gone…
