Alexis Trumbull wore a different uniform this weekend, but the hits kept coming.

Playing with her Skagit Valley College teammates at the Yakima Crossover Tournament, Trumbull wore a modified pink uniform to show support for the fight against breast cancer.

The new togs seemed to suit the Wolf grad fine, however, as she rapped out two hits against Walla Walla to top the Cardinal offense in that game.

She’s going to Minnesota.

Coupeville High School senior Amanda d’Almeida, a standout soccer and tennis player who has combined athletic success with academic excellence, has signed to play college ball at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota.

The Knights, who have repeat appearances in the NCAA tournament to their credit, are coached by Jocelyn Keller, who was a successful player at DePauw University.

d’Almeida received a $10,000 merit scholarship and “a very strong overall package,” said dad Dan d’Almeida.

Out of the numerous universities that recruited the standout scorer, she narrowed her final choices down to Carleton, Haverford, Whitman, CMS (Claremont-McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Scripps) and Willamette.

Pre-season camp begins August 17th for d’Almeida and her new teammates.

Her dad, who doubles as the girls’ soccer coach at CHS, hopes other Wolf athletes will take his daughter’s success as a reason to keep themselves equally dedicated, both on the playing field and in the classroom.

“I want to encourage athletes to be as great in the classroom as they are on the field or court in order to make affordable college possible,” he said. “Absolute dedication to a dream and hard work (off-Island year-round select soccer) pays off.

“Not always something that our kids want to hear, but often the ‘true’ story behind successful athletes.”

Off the field, she’s as nice as they come.

On the field, Alexis Trumbull is a holy terror with the bat, sending waves of fear through any college softball hurler unlucky enough to face her and her Skagit Valley College teammates.

The Coupeville High School grad, and pride of Whidbey, is captured in these photos by mom Shelli Trumbull as she plays against Edmonds last weekend.

Alert the media. Tyler King is getting faster.

The already ultra-quick former Wolf, who now runs cross country and track for the University of Washington, set a PR in the 5,000 meter race at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto at the end of March.

His time of 14 minutes, .58 seconds topped his previous college best by more than 18 seconds.

King then followed that up with a strong showing in the 1,500 at the Pepsi Team Invitational in Eugene. He clocked in at 3:57.91 in that race.

Alexis Trumbull is on the road this Spring Break.

She and her Skagit Valley College teammates are off on a three-games-in-three-days jaunt that will take them to Yakima, Idaho and Walla Walla to play softball.

The Coupeville High School grad, who is a DH, pitcher and second baseman for the Cardinals, may not be starting every game as she did in her Wolf days, but “she’s having a blast while she’s getting her education, ” said mom Shelli Trumbull.

For those who may have forgotten what the softball sensation looks like, we offer a few current photos to jog your memory.
