Ten weeks, ten shots for a Coupeville High School athlete to be recognized.

OK, Coupeville – time to self promote.

As the 2019 National Football League season plays out, CenturyLink and the Seattle Seahawks are teaming up to honor Washington state high school athletes.

Their Athlete of the Week will honor WIAA recognized student-athletes that “display leadership, passion, and dedication both on and off the field.”

Nominations are accepted from August 6 until November 12 and there will be 10 winners.

To be eligible, you have to participate at the high school level during the 2019 calendar year, which would mean athletes who graduated this spring would still be eligible.

The sports recognized by CenturyLink and the Seahawks include every varsity sport played by Coupeville High School athletes – tennis, volleyball, wrestling, football, cheer, cross country, soccer, basketball, track and field, softball, and baseball.

Nominations can be submitted by coaches, teachers, parents, peers, and community members – so, basically anyone willing to take the time to toss a Wolf or two into the mix.

Winners receive:

**$1,000 donation to athlete’s athletic department
**In-school presentation
**Personalized 2019 Nike Seahawks jersey
**Custom Seahawks football
**Two game tickets and sideline passes to a Seahawks home game
**Recognition on the Hawkvision videoboard
**Recognition in a Seahawks Gameday radio broadcast
**Weekly KIRO Radio segments recognizing winners
**Recognition on Seahawks.com
**CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week letterman jacket patch

Play a fall sport like volleyball? You could be honored by the Seahawks. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

It’s not the Steelers, but it’s a start.

The Seattle Seahawks (are they still an NFL team? I kid, I kid…), Q13 Fox and CenturyLink are joining forces to honor Washington state high school student athletes during the fall sports season.

The program, which started Aug. 28, runs 10 weeks and rewards athletes who “display excellence both on and off the field.”

Just about anyone — coaches, teachers, parents, fellow players and community members, heck, even bloggers — can nominate an athlete.

Criteria should include the student’s dedication to academics, community involvement, leadership, reliability and weekly athletic performance.

Each week a winner be picked, with that athlete recognized both at their school and at a Seahawks game.

Honorees also pick up a $1,000 grant for their school, plus a personalized 2017 Nike Seahawks jersey, a custom football, sideline passes to a home game and more.

“FREE Seahawk tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!” (John Fisken photo)

This could be a major win-win.

From now until Nov. 14, Coupeville High School student/athletes have an opportunity to net a prize package worth $1,500 for themselves and their school.

The Seattle Seahawks and CenturyLink will honor a prep athlete each week during the fall sports season, and nominations can be made by just about anyone.

Each week’s winners will cop:

  • $1,000 donation to their school’s athletic department
  • In-School presentation hosted by sponsor(s)
  • Personalized 2016 Nike Seahawks Jersey
  • Custom Seahawks football
  • Two game tickets and sidelines passes to a Seahawks game of Sponsors’ choosing
  • Recognition on the HawkVision video board
  • Recognition in a Seahawks game day broadcast
  • Recognition on Seahawks.com
  • CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week letterman jacket patch

Unlike the WIAA Athlete of the Week award, which is aimed at a specific performance, this award will be granted based on three criteria: dedication to academics, community involvement and leadership/reliability as demonstrated in their sport.

It’s simple. Follow the link below and you can nominate any Wolf athlete you want.

Almost.

For some reason, if you look deep into the rules, boys tennis is not listed among the eligible sports.

Wolf coach Ken Stange (and his racket) are on their way to “discuss” the matter with the responsible parties right now.

That leaves volleyball, football, girls soccer and cheer as the Coupeville sports which fit the criteria.

The more time and effort you put into answering the questions, the better chance your athlete has of rising to the top and earning themselves, their team and CHS a well-deserved moment in the spotlight.
