“I feel the need, the need for speed!” (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

It’s the final roar of summer.

Hydros for Heroes returned to the waters off of Oak Harbor for a seventh time this weekend, with boats zipping across the H20 while fans tipped one back in the beer garden.

The annual event brings in upwards of 50 race teams and 10,000 fans each year, and highlights the activities of law enforcement, firefighters/EMS, military, and healthcare professionals.

Money raised goes to fund scholarships.

“Do I have a driver’s license? Doesn’t matter, cause the cops will never catch me!!” (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

“Brakes? Where we’re going, we don’t need brakes.”

Well, OK, maybe they had brakes after all, but that didn’t stop young racers from picking up some speed flying down Oak Harbor’s hills.

The North Whidbey Sunrise Rotary Club held its 31st annual Challenge Series Saturday, which raises money for special needs families in the community.

Two young drivers team up in each car, with gravity helping to send the vehicles careening towards the finish line.

Back on Whidbey after a summer trek across America’s backroads, photographer John Fisken was front and center to snap pics, which he shares with us here.

“Here comes the pain, sister!” (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Saturday night’s alright for fighting.

Whether they were humming Elton John’s song or not, a pack of roller derby queens went toe-to-toe (and wheel-to-wheel) this weekend, tearing up the floor at the Oak Harbor High School gym.

Buzzed on Diet Coke, wanderin’ photo bug John Fisken was on hand to snap the pics seen above and below.

Have hydro, will race. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Boats were revved and photos were snapped.

Back from a summer RV trip across America, John Fisken (and his cameras) stayed busy Sunday documenting Hydros for Heroes.

The annual event, which went down on the waters off Oak Harbor, is a popular fundraiser which attracts more than its share of looky-loo’s.

To see everything Fisken snapped, and perhaps purchase some prints for posterity, pop over to:

Oak Harbor’s Holland Happening parade brought out a variety of folks. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Oak Harbor was abuzz.

Holland Happening returned in all its glory Saturday, with a parade shutting down the middle part of town as princesses waved, candy was flung, and pooper scoopers kept a watchful eye on prancing horses.

John Fisken wandered through the middle of all the activity, and the photos above and below are courtesy him.

To see everything he shot, pop over to:
