The job postings section on the Coupeville School District web site is a busy place right now.
Two of the four openings offered to external candidates are sports-related, with the high school seeking new assistant coaches for volleyball and track.
But, it’s when you look under the jobs accepting applications from internal candidates that things get really interesting.
The school district has posted the job of Principal for the high school and middle school, and, most importantly for sports fans, the role of Athletic Director.
Both jobs would kick in with the 2016-2017 school year.
Duane Baumann is currently in his second year juggling jobs as AD and Vice Principal, while Dr. Jim Shank has been operating as schools Superintendent, Director of Special Education/Student Services and CHS/CMS Principal.
While nothing has been officially confirmed, it doesn’t take much of a leap on my part to imagine the hard-working Baumann rising to take the Principal position.
The question over who is most likely to replace him as AD is an intriguing one, with several strong candidates currently existing in-house.
The overwhelming favorite has, for now, elected to remain mum publicly on the matter.
All I will say is this, if that person were to get the job, it would be a major win for Wolf coaches, athletes and fans.
